The Musk Who Fell To Earth is the 12th episode of the 26th season of The Simpsons, it stars Elon Musk playing a fictionalized version of himself.
Plot
Homer and his new friend, an inventor named Elon Musk, revolutionize Springfield's nuclear plant; Mr. Burns wants to get rid of Musk after the inventor goes too far.
Why It Blew Up and Shredded the Upper Atmosphere
- Much like "Lisa Goes Gaga", this episode is mostly a 22-minute advertisement for Elon Musk which goes on for too long and goes nowhere, and it seems to just be an episode that exists just so that Elon Musk could have a guest appearance on the show, although it never usually works out well when episodes that had guest appearances of the celebrities in past episodes of the show usually had them brief, whilst this one drags out for far too long.
- The whole town treats Elon Musk like he's a lord and savior, and it seems to try way too hard to tell the viewer that Elon Musk is a perfect human being, which isn't true because even though he's not exactly a bad person, he's not perfect either.
- Given that the episode treats Elon Musk like a messiah, it shows that the writers of this episode didn’t listen to the criticism from the “Lisa Goes Gaga” episode as it treated Lady Gaga in a similar way.
- Musk's feature appearance in the episode has also aged poorly in light of his polarizing stances in recent years considering his acquisition and management of Twitter and endorsement of controversial figures and beliefs.
- There are some tasteless and bad jokes here. Such as the part where an eagle eats a bird and the part where the same eagle gets killed by Elon Musk's rocket.
- Alongside some tasteless jokes, there is one annoying recurring joke revolving around Elon Musk staring intensely while orchestrated music plays, and the music stops every time he says something.
- The episode's plot is completely uninteresting and barely anything happens in it, even the concept of Mr. Burns trying to get rid of Elon Musk is boring and goes nowhere too.
- Though the voice acting in this episode is still decent, Elon Musk has really bad acting in this episode; he sounds bored and unmotivated to act here.
- There is pointless product placement for The Simpsons: Tapped Out near the end of the episode when Elon Musk is back up in his spaceship. They could have used it as a commercial separate from the episode, but instead, they decided to throw in a cameo for an app that does not have anything to do with the episode.
- Though nowhere portrayed or written as an egocentric show-off like Lady Gaga here, Elon Musk here is simply bland and uninteresting, unlike the other celebrities that were written.
Redeeming Qualities
- Unlike Lady Gaga in "Lisa Goes Gaga", Elon Musk isn't as show-offy or egotistical.
- Most of the voice acting is still passable as always, and the same goes for the animation.
- The title screen gag is passable as well.
- Homer, Marge, Mr. Burns, and Smithers are likeable here.
