The Osmonds is a 1972 ABC-TV Saturday morning cartoon series produced by Rankin/Bass Productions starring the Osmond Brothers. Each episode features the family in a different location around the world, with young Jimmy's antics usually driving the plot of the episode. As with most television series oriented around bands, the Osmonds' songs were featured prominently in the series. The series also featured their talking pet dog, Fuji. Marie Osmond did not appear in the series, as she would not make her performing debut until 1973. An abridged version of their hit song "One Bad Apple" was used for the opening and ending credits of the show.

Similar to the Jackson 5ive, it used a laugh track created by Rankin/Bass. Unlike the Jacksons, the Osmond brothers provided their own speaking voices in their series.

Plot

Each episode features the Osmonds exploring the world.

Bad Qualities

  1. It was made just to cash in the success of the Osmonds, but in a bad way.
  2. Like many Saturday morning cartoons of the 70s, this show is cheaply animated and uses the artificial laugh track.
  3. Fuji is an offensive Japanese stereotype.
  4. With the exception of Donny and Jimmy, all of the fictionalized versions of the Osmonds share the exact same personality, or lack thereof.
    • Even their designs are near-difficult to tell apart from each other, despite their varying hairstyles and outfit colors.
  5. The songs are considered filler.
  6. Some plots of each episode are either weak or boring and dull as sin.

Good Qualities

  1. The Osmonds were voiced by the real musical group themselves, unlike The Jackson 5ive.
  2. Its theme song is catchy since the song "One Bad Apple" was used.
  3. Passable art style.

Reception

It has a 5.9 rating on IMDb.
