Summary

Following a narrow ravine on their way to Celestic Town, the Heroes find their way blocked by a trio of determined and powerful Psyduck.

Why It Stops Nowhere

  1. The episode's plot is very lazy and unneeded: Ash and Co. just travel through a ravine, get blocked by a trio of Psyduck, and that's it.
  2. Team Rocket is very unlikable for causing much-needed disasters around Ash and his friends, as well as being poor attempts as comic reliefs.
    • They tried to steal the Psyduck while using helmets, knowing Psyduck’s lack of avoidance-kidnapping intelligence.
    • Not only that, Team Rocket trying to talk with them via Meowth didn’t go great as well, and they end up blasting off again.
  3. When the gang gets to the Psyduck, that’s when the trouble starts, as they start to attack them to send them away, and easily did it again to Ash when he tried to get through by force.
  4. Some scenes can be painful to watch:
    • When Ash and Co. send out their Pokémon, they only used one at a time. It was painful that each Pokémon got hurt as a result.
    • When Gliscor was carrying Ash after deciding to use it, they keep bumping into things and had a crash landing twice in a row.
  5. Plot Hole: Why couldn't Ash and his friends just use three Pokémon at the same time to stop the Psyduck?
  6. Unfunny jokes, such as Brock and Dawn distracting the Psyduck in one scene and Brock does Brock's Paradise ("Takeshi's Paradise" in the original Japanese version) while wearing Mexican-themed clothing in another, which gets old pretty fast.
  7. The reason the Psyduck were blocking the road was to protect their young Pokémon eggs. This scene happened because the near end of the episode exclaimed everything about it.
  8. Muk forced the Psyduck out of Lake Psyduck, forcing them to live in a tiny lake, leaving them starving.
  9. Many Predictable things happen to get the happy ending we suspected:
    • Predictable defeat for Team Rocket as the heroes stop them and they send them blasting off again.
    • Predictable egg hatching and the heroes gain their trust by giving them Pokémon food.
    • Predictable ending for the Muk as our heroes blast them off into a mud lake, and they have fun in it with 3 female Muk.
  10. The Psyduck parts are all uninteresting.
  11. The battling parts are not fun at all and are very uninteresting, which is unacceptable for a Pokémon series.
  12. Predictable ending: the Psyduck gets their lake back and has their happy ending, and our heroes will make it to the contest after all.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The animation and voice acting is still good as usual.
  2. Ash, Dawn and their Pokemon are the only likable characters.
  3. The ending, while predictable, is at least good.
