The Scoop is the 1st episode of the 5th season of Teen Titans Go!.

Synopsis

The Titans find it odd when Starfire becomes friends with an ice cream scoop.

Why It's Melted

  1. This episode comes off as a direct ripoff of the SpongeBob SquarePants episode, To Love a Patty because it involves the main character becoming an objectophile (SpongeBob with a krabby patty, Starfire with an ice cream scoop) which is very unhealthy. There are even closeups too but they’re not disgusting but just lazy and creepy because they’re nothing more but closeups of stock footage of an live action ice cream scoop and they’re very creepy.
  2. Misleading synopsis: The synopsis states that Starfire “befriends” the ice cream scoop but in the actual episode, comes off as more of a romantic relationship (just like To Love a Patty) because Starfire does things with it that friends don't do such as going on romantic boat rides, kissing it, and even sleeping with it at one point.
  3. The beginning of the episode has a whole scene with Starfire fancying a waffle iron. It’s so disgusting actually.
  4. It continues the running gag of Starfire falling in love with a certain object/food which is disgusting.
  5. The Teen Titans are even unlikable at the beginning of the episode because they attack the Hive Five just for having an ice cream party, their party wasn't hurting anyone, they were just partying amongst themselves. (Really) Why do they attack them? "Villains do not deserve to have ice cream" That's ridiculous! You can be the most evil person on the planet and still have ice cream. Ice cream is for everyone!
    • Robin even flat out tells them to think twice before acting like a normal member of society.
    • To make things worse, Starfire even stole the ice cream scoop used to scoop ice cream for the party and falls in love with it.
    • This is when the plot devolves because that's when we get Starfire being an objectophile and the episode starts to ripoff To Love a Patty and we get a romantic montage with Starfire and the ice cream scoop, she goes out to lunch with it, goes on a romantic boat ride, flies around town, and EVEN sleeps with it. We wish we were joking but this is what happens.
  6. Then the climax comes because Starfire becomes severely unlikable when the titular ice cream scoop gets stolen. She ties the Titans to chairs, locks them in the basement, "talks" through a waffle iron she was "dating" at the beginning of the episode, beats them up, and yells at them. All this just look at the security footage?!
  7. The other Titans realize they are wrong and they suddenly become objectophiles themselves and it's stupid.
  8. They accept Starfire for the fetish even though the fetish is wrong, creepy, and unhealthy.
  9. Bad Moral: Unlike SpongeBob in "To Love a Patty", Starfire does not learn her lesson in this episode as she tells the Titans that it is ok to embrace objectophiles and and let them become enamored with inanimate objects, it essentially glorifies the meaning of fetish, not a good thing to do.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. At least the Titans tried to reason with Starfire to tell her that fetish is unhealthy at the beginning of the episode.
  2. The other Titans are likable during the majority of the episode because they try to bring Starfire back to reality.
  3. While the plot is literally To Love a Patty with a fresh coat of paint, there is no grossout and no animal abuse scene. It's more of an innocent version of the episode.
  4. Thankfulky, this is the last "Starfire is an objectophile" episode.
