The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 thriller film starring Jodie Foster, Scott Glenn, Anthony Hopkins and Ted Levine. The film was directed by the late Jonathon Demme. It is based on the 1988 novel by Thomas Harris.
Plot
Newcoming F.B.I. Agent Clarice Starling (Foster) gets appointed by Behavioral Science Unit leader Jack Crawford (Glenn) to get information convicted psychopath Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins) about a serial killer that goes by the name of “Buffalo Bill.”
Why It Rocks
- The story is well written.
- Hannibal Lecter is an intimidating and interesting prisoner.
- Buffalo Bill made a superb main villain and his idea of making clothes out of dead women’s skins is creepy and creative.
- Clarice is likable and very smart.
- The music is incredibly creepy and fits the tone.
- Jack is very cautious and is a good mentor.
- The “It rubs the lotion on its skin” statement is in some ways amusing, despite it being serious.
- On multiple occasions, the movie gets eerie when it looks like Hannibal Lecter is staring into your soul.
Bad Qualties
- Buffalo Bill's backstory is omitted and replaced with a one-sentence summary by Lecter.
- Speaking about Buffalo Bill, his claims of being transgender have vilified the transgender community because they feel that the character makes it look that trans people are potential sexual predators, leading many trans viewers to hate the film because of this.
