The Simpsons Game is a platform game based on the animated television series The Simpsons and loosely on The Simpsons Movie. Released for the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360. The game was developed by EA Redwood Shores and published by Electronic Arts.

Why It Makes You Go "Woo-Hoo!"

  1. Many of the dialogue and writing in the game are very funny and self-aware, but in a good way.
  2. The game has great two-player co-op too.
  3. The cel-shaded graphics are very good, as they try to resemble the 2D-styled animation into 3D-styled animation, and they actually work very well.
  4. Each character you play as in the game all have different and unique powers from each other:
    • Homer can burp on people, which makes them go dizzy and also has the power to become a ball and to turn into a blob, which is a nice callback to the Treehouse of Horror XVII segment "Married to the Blob".
    • Bart can shoot people with his slingshot, and can also glide with his Bartman outfit, he also has a superpower in which he turns into a robot and is able to shoot laser beams at the enemies.
    • Lisa can use her saxophone to mind control enemies, though, it originally starts out as a stunning weapon, and is able to use Buddha powers, she also has a superpower in which she turns into Clobber Girl, and becomes invincible, and can kill people in just one hit.
    • Marge can make pedestrians join a mob, and can destroy and fix certain objects, she also can use Maggie to crawl through small vents and has a superpower where she can become a cop.
  5. All the levels are all different, unique and fun at the same time.
  6. There are tons of throwbacks to older episodes of the series here.
    • Lots of the pedestrians in Springfield will say different pieces of dialogue, which mostly consist of telling memorable quotes and lines from past episodes of the show.
    • Homer's blob design in a nice callback to "Married to the Blob" from Treehouse of Horror XVII.
    • Mr. Sparkle appears as one of the main characters in the "Big Super Happy Fun Fun Game" chapter.
    • Poochy appears as one of the villains in the "Grand Theft Scratchy" chapter.
    • The chapters "Shadow of the Colossal Donut" and "The Day of the Dolphin" have callbacks to the Treehouse of Horror episodes, most notably Lard Lad coming to life as a callback to Treehouse of Horror VI and the evil dolphins as a callback to Treehouse of Horror XII.
  7. Many of the levels of the game have very funny and clever parodies based on other popular franchises such as Super Mario Bros., Zelda, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Medal of Honor, Grand Theft Auto, and etc.
  8. Will Wright, the creator of SimCity and The Sims even appears in the game, poking fun at himself, and as a minor antagonist that tries to destroy the 8-bit Simpsons.
  9. Lots of the cutscenes that play before, and after the missions are well-animated, and fit the animation style of the show.
  10. Much like The Simpsons: Hit & Run, you can free roam the town of Springfield as a giant sandbox, there are even buildings that you can go inside, and many recognizable characters can be seen walking around the place with their own unique pieces of dialogue.

"D'oh!" Qualities

  1. The ports that were co-developed with Rebellion Developments are inferior.
  2. The game is very short as there are only 16 levels, and there isn't much to do after that. There's no purpose on beating the game 100% either.
  3. There aren't that many outfits for your characters to pick from, unlike in The Simpsons: Hit & Run, as all the characters only get one new outfit, with the exception of Homer, who gets three new outfits.
  4. Some of the time challenges are a pain to do.
