The Slim Shady Show is a web series created by famous rapper Eminem. It had about 11 episodes and went from 2000-2003. It stars his character, Slim Shady.
Why It's Not the Real Slim Shady
- The flash animation looks terrible and has a nauseating color palette with saturated green and browns.
- In fact, the animation is so abysmal that it makes The Problem Solverz look like the Iron Giant! True, it is an early webtoon, but Homestar Runner premiered the same year and that looks like television quality.
- All of the characters range from unlikeable and bland at best to downright annoying and despicable at worst.
- Slim Shady himself is extremely unlikeable and obnoxious, despite being accurate enough to the character of Slim that Eminem uses in his music, at least the music Slim had some wittiness and charm, but in the show, he comes across as a terrible person that always gets Marshall into trouble. What's even worse? He's the main protagonist!
- Incredibly obnoxious, low-brow, mean-spirited, and offensive humor, in addition, to stereotyping of homosexuals in one of the episodes.
- Removing Slim Shady himself, the rest of the characters are stereotypical, like Big D, who feels like a racist caricature of Afro-Americans.
- It's possibly a rip-off of South Park, not just because they parodied it, but because of its low-brow, offensive humor, constant making fun of celebrities and other pop culture, and its animation style.
- There's little to no premise to any episode. A lot of the plots are one-note and feel like they were written by a small child.
- Some moments feel very disturbing, like in "Movie Star Marshall", where Big D cannibalized Ma$e while singing in front of an audience, or even a running gag of Slim Shady throwing a glass bottle in a school bus that falls in the ocean and lets some children drown in the ocean.
- Unconvincing and inconsistent voice acting, the actor who plays Big D overacts, while Eminem himself in his roles as Slim, Marshall, and Ken Kaniff, underacts.
- A constant amount of swearing with no real point to it.
- Ugly and unappealing character designs.
- Irritating background music. It's a poorly made hip-hop beat that's at a constant loop, and it never changes pace or style.
- Poorly done celebrity bashing.
Redeeming Qualities
- Catchy theme song, despite it repeating "Slim Shady" a lot.
- Despite all the ugly character designs, Slim's design is decent. It looks like Eminem at the time and is probably the only passable design out of all the characters.
- There are some bonuses for hardcore Eminem fans in some episodes.
- Slim Shady's meltdown in "Slimshank Redemption" could be seen as quite funny.
Reception
It has a score of 5.4/10 on IMDb.
Trivia
- "Slimshank Redemption" was featured on the Special Edition Bonus DVD of The Eminem Show.
