The Story of Pollyanna, Girl of Love (愛少女ポリアンナ物語, Ai Shōjo Porianna Monogatari) is a Japanese anime series by Nippon Animation, and part of the World Masterpiece Theater series. It consists of 51 episodes. Premiering across Fuji TV from 12 January to 28 December 1986, it has rerun across Japan on Animax from February 2007.[1] It was dubbed in other languages for some regions of the world outside Japan including Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, the Arab World, and the Philippines.

It was based on the 1913 novel Pollyanna and following 1915 sequel Pollyanna Grows Up by Eleanor H. Porter.

Why It Runs A Diamond Mine in British Raj

  1. The story follows Pollyanna, a young orphan girl whose parents passed away when she was younger. The series begins when Pollyanna is sent to the town of Beldingsville to live with her Aunt Polly Harrington, one of her few remaining relatives.
  2. Likable characters, such as Pollyanna Whittier, Polly Harrington Chilton, Dr. Thomas Chilton and Jimmy Bean Pendleton / Jamie Kent.
  3. The opening and ending themes is very great and nice.
  4. This anime was very popular in other languages for some regions of the world outside Japan including Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, the Arab World, and the Philippines, Unlike in United States.
  5. Great voice acting, especially from Mitsuko Horie and Masako Nozawa (Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise).
  6. The animation looks very good and nice.

Bad Qualities

  1. This anime series was never English dub at all, especially The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Tales of Little Women was finally English dubbed in United States.
  2. There are so unlikable characters sometimes, espcially Polly Harrington Chilton in early episodes.

Trivia

  • Masako Nozawa (the voice of Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise) has voicing the jerkass aunt Polly Harrington Chilton.
