The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart is a 2023 American direct-to-video adult animated science fiction action adventure film based on the Adult Swim cartoon series The Venture Bros. The film is directed and co-written by series creator Jackson Publick and writer Doc Hammer, who also serves as executive producer, and features the voices of the show's returning principal actors, including James Urbaniak, Patrick Warburton, Michael Sinterniklaas, Publick, and Hammer.
Why It’s Venturesome
- For starters, it’s a great ending to an amazing show that answers a lot of questions, such as who Dean and Hank’s mom are.
- Many memorable and good quotes from the film.
- The animation looks amazing, as always, especially the fight scenes.
- It still has the great and funny humor of the show the film is based on.
- Not to mention there was a hysterical moment where Rusty’s pants fell near the end.
- And just like the show, the voice work is still amazing from James Urbaniak. Patrick Warburton, Chris McCulloch, and Doc Hammer.
- Some characters are a great addition to the film, such as Mantilla, the main antagonist of the film, and Bobbi St. Simone, who was mentioned once but served a bigger purpose in this film.
- You may recognize some of the references they might sneak in, which can be funny at times. There was a line about "nipples on the batsuit", being a reference to the film Batman Forever.
- It had an insane plot twist at the end; it is explained that Dr. Rusty Venture is Dean and Hank’s birth parent after receiving genetic materials from Bobbi St. Simone's daughter, Debbie, who appears in the new film.
- It has great direction by Jackson Publick and good writing by both him and Doc Hammer.
Unadventurous Qualities
- Despite some questions still being answered, some are left unanswered, which can leave fans disappointed. However, it did cover a lot of important things in its 1-hour run time, despite that.
- It is still sad to see the show end since many people want more of these great and entertaining characters.
Reception
The film has received positive feedback from both critics and audiences alike, having an 8.0/10 on IMDb and a 91% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.
