Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is a 2001 skateboarding video game developed by Neversoft and published by Activision. It is a sequel to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2.

Why It Rocks

  1. Introduced in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is the revert, a move that lets the player continue a combo when coming back down from a vert air, allowing the player to score even bigger combos than the game's predecessors.
  2. Awesome soundtrack featuring bands like the Adolescents, Ramones, Motörhead, and more.
  3. NPCs now have voices and will comment about your skating.
  4. Ability to interact with certain levels (like the earthquake in Los Angeles).
  5. The game also features remastered versions of some of the THPS1 levels, like Warehouse and Roswell.
  6. The Xbox version of the game has an additional level, the Oil Rig.
  7. Completing the career mode a number of times with each character unlocks secret skaters like Kelly Slater, Shaun Palmer (GBA exclusive), Wolverine and Darth Maul.
  8. The GBA port has a secret level called "The Zone" where the more of characters you complete both career modes (pro and sponsor) the level gets more stuff to skate into.
  9. The game introduced the ability to rotate the camera and lock it in place.
  10. This is the first game in the series to let you create a custom female skater.
  11. The Big Drop warning is gone.

Bad Qualities

  1. The bonus levels that you unlock in the game (besides the Cruise Ship) do not have goals of their own. This also includes the exclusive levels Oil Rig for Xbox and and Downhill for N64 and PS1. In other words, these levels are only available in free skate, single session and two-player mode, not in career mode.
  2. Some annoyingly bad songs on the soundtrack like the nu metal duds Check, Pulse, and Wish, and the rap song Let's Get Dirty.
  3. The game can be beaten in five minutes if you speed run through it.
  4. The N64 and PS1 ports didn't get rid of the Big Drop, balancing lips are missing and as usual with N64 versions, it didn't feature the movies and the soundtrack was modified.
  5. The Game Boy Color port is an inferior version, without any music during sessions, anyway it is a big improvement from previous GBC ports of the franchise.
  6. The skaters don't have any voice-overs whenever they fall off their skateboards in the PS2 and GameCube versions.

Trivia

  • The GBC port has a level based in an unfinished level called "Paris".
  • This was the last game being released for the Nintendo 64, launched in August 20 of 2002 only in America, despite the console was officially discontinued in April 30 of the same year.
  • It was a launch title to the GameCube as well as the Xbox (in Europe, North America got THPS2x as a launch title) and the last game for the Nintendo 64.
  • Some versions of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 got some exclusive levels or skaters, Xbox version has the exclusive Oil Rig level and X-Ray the Skeleton as an exclusive unlockable skater, PC version had Doomguy as an exclusive unlockable skater, the GBA version has a level known as The Zone where it evolves the more you play the game and the PS1/N64 versions had an exclusive level known as Downhill.
  • It was also one of the first PS2 games to support online play.
