Toy Story 3 is a 2010 platform video game loosely based on the film Toy Story 3. It was published by Disney Interactive Studios and developed by Avalanche Software for multiple platforms (seventh-gen consoles, Windows, and Mac OS X), Asobo Studio for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable, n-Space for the Nintendo DS, and Disney Mobile Studios for iOS.
A special PlayStation 2 bundle with Toy Story 3 was released on October 31, 2010, followed by the game's individual release on November 2, 2010.
This page only applies to the versions developed by Avalanche Software.
Plot
Woody, Jessie, Bullseye, Buzz Lightyear, Slinky, Rex, Hamm, the three squeaky toy aliens, Buttercup, the Peas-in-a-Pod, Mr. Pricklepants, Chuckles, Dolly and Trixie are the toys of a young girl named Bonnie Anderson. But among them, Woody, Jessie, Buzz, Slinky, Bullseye, Rex, Hamm and the alien toys used to belong to a boy named Andy Davis. Hamm, Rex and Slinky tell the original toys of Bonnie about an adventure they had before they went to Bonnie and how they ended up as Bonnie's.
Why It’s Got a Friend in Me
NOTE: This applies to the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Windows and Mac versions only.
- Like the previous two Toy Story games, the game stays in the original platform gameplay.
- You can play as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie.
- The graphics are very great for a 2010 title. The game looks like the movie.
- Good voice acting, especially Jim Hanks and Mike MacRae, as they both do a spot-on impression of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Most of the other cast reprise their roles (examples including Joan Cusack (Jessie), John Ratzenberger (Hamm), Wallace Shawn (Rex), and R. Lee Ermey (Sarge)), and they do a good job too.
- The Toy Box mode, (Known as Woody's Roundup) is where you can do missions, paint and build stuff, explore areas and more. It was one of the inspirations for Disney Infinity.
- Toy Box mode also has a lot of content.
- Varied and coherently designed levels. One level takes place in the Buzz Lightyear video game from Toy Story 2, 2 of the levels take place inside Bonnie's imagination were Dolly is "the Scary Witch" and you have to defeat her, and the next has Woody and Jessie sneak into Sunnyside at night and they are rescuing Andy's toys without being seen.
- You can switch characters at any time.
- The PS3 version has more content in the Toy Box mode, such as the ability to play as Zurg and drive around in his car, and play a bonus PlayStation Move mini-game.
- Great grasp of the source material. Several examples include "You've Got A Friend In Me" in the menus, Luxo Jr. and the Pixar ball making an appearance, and the word Andy is written on Woody and Buzz Lightyear's foot, just like in Toy Story 2.
- Multiplayer co-op with someone at the same time.
- Grim Grinning Ghosts from The Haunted Mansion is a level song.
- Lots of intriguing and possibly memorable characters.
- Controls with a mouse and keyboard layout is very playable on PC.
- Collecting items in the levels allows you to use them in Toy Box mode.
- If you die too many times on one section of a level, the game will assist you to get you to the next section easily.
- A lot of great tools and mounts are in the this game.
- Bullseye: Woody's horse, Allows you to jump far distances.
- Sports Car: Allows you to enter driving challenges
- Teeny Racer: Required for the Teeny Racer challenge in Sunnyside and can also be used to enter driving challenges
- Dragon: Found in the Enchanted forest level, does not move as fast as bullseye but can shoot fireballs.
Bad Qualities
- The PSP, PS2 and DS versions are inferior.
- The visuals on the Wii and PC versions aren’t as amazing as the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions.
- Stinky Pete is voiced by a different voice actor, and he sounds horrible in the game (Although he probably does sound like that in Woody's Roundup TV Show in Toy Story 2).
- There are only 8 levels and each one is 10-30 mins long.
- There can be occasional frame rate drops during multiplayer in Toy Box Mode.
- Random town ambushes are really annoying and whenever Hamm/Rex/Zurg/Lotso warns you, the game stops you from moving until they finish talking.
- Only 3 bosses. (Zurg, "The Scary Witch", "Dr. Porkchop".)
- Ken, Barbie, Mr. Potato Head, and Mrs. Potato Head do not appear in the game at all, nor are they mentioned, Though this could be likely forgiven, considering that Disney had licensing copyright issues.
Reception
The home console versions received generally favourable reviews, while the PC version received mixed reviews.
