Ultimate Spider-Man is a Disney XD American television series created by Brian Michael Bendis and Stan Lee for Disney XD. The show is based on the Spider-Man comics, with some Ultimate Spider-Man comic elements added in. The third season was retitled as Ultimate Spider-Man: Web-Warriors, and the fourth and final season as Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Six.

Summary

The series follows the life of the young teenager Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, as he understands and reaches his maximum potential powers by joining S.H.I.E.L.D. and forming a team of superheroes to defeat a multitude of powerful supervillains. During his journey, he meets his most difficult challenges, while still maintaining his secret identity as Spider-Man.

Good Qualities

  1. It is a well-written Marvel TV series that goes in a new direction of being a comedy series with a balanced mix of Marvel elements to make a pretty cool formula.
  2. Spider-Man's portrayal in this show is good and fitting for this show's direction, as he tends to have a witty and energetic personality while having some fourth wall-breaking moments for any extra comedic moments.
    • Even though fourth wall-breaking isn't usually Spider-Man's shtick, it's an original use of the character.
  3. Great voice acting, especially from Drake Bell as Spider-Man, Ogie Banks as both Luke Cage and Miles Morales, Greg Cipes as Iron Fist, Caitlyn Taylor Love as White Tiger, Logan Miller as Nova, and many others.
    • Clark Gregg and J.K. Simmons reprise their respective roles as Agent Coulson and J. Jonah Jameson.
  4. It features tons of Marvel characters like Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man and some other characters who are currently in the MCU.
  5. Awesome animation with some creative designs in the comedic scenes.
  6. It has some pretty funny moments.
  7. Iron Fist, Nova, White Tiger and Luke Cage are all well-developed allies for Spider-Man (mostly after season 1).
  8. Deadpool makes an appearance in one episode and he literally takes over the show, calling it "Ultimate Deadpool".
  9. It has a crossover with Jessie called "Halloween Night at the Museum", which is another great crossover between Disney Channel and Disney XD.
  10. It offers some pretty great originally that can be found interesting, like how Harry Osborn is Venom in this incarnation.
  11. Awesome and funny cameos by Stan Lee.
  12. The credits song is very good to listen to.
  13. It did the "Spider-Verse" concept before Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse... twice:
    • The first arc ("The Spider-Verse") sees Spider-Man chasing Green Goblin across the multiverse and encountering various alternate Spider-People.
    • The second arc ("Return to the Spider-Verse") has Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen teaming up to stop an evil version of Peter Parker from stealing the powers of every Spider-Person in existence.

Bad Qualities

  1. The reason why the series is hated by many is because the series is not entirely faithful to the comics of the same name it was based on, making the title itself misleading.
    • It would have been nice if the series would have been titled "The Amazingly Adventures of Spider-Man" instead of "Ultimate Spider-Man".
  2. Generic theme song (if you can call it that, it’s just the logo). This is repeated by other Marvel shows, like Avengers Assemble and Marvel's Spider-Man.
  3. Some may find the humor to be a little too wacky sometimes (mostly in season 1), especially if it ruins dramatic moments.
  4. Some mean-spirited moments, especially from Flash Thompson, Nick Fury and Spider-Man's teammates in season 1.
  5. A few of the characters, like Nick Fury and Nova, are just unbearable.
  6. Poor grasp of the source material, like the Rhino being a bullied teenager in Peter's school rather than a Russian criminal.
  7. Flash Thompson started out as being a massive jerk to Peter, though later seasons improved him.
  8. Season 1 is considered by many fans to be the weakest season.
  9. Before his character re-railment in season 2, Spider-Man was flanderized in the first season and had some similarities to Deadpool.
  10. Some characters like Luke Cage and Venom aren't like their comic counterparts, mainly so Disney and Marvel could further avoid mature themes.
  11. A lot of people really hates this show, because it was mentioned in BQ #1.
