Total Drama is a Canadian animated comedy television series which is a homage and parody to common conventions from reality television. Each season revolves around a group of teenagers competing in a fictional competition similar to that of Survivor, in that the contestants compete in challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination.The show and its sequel seasons are collectively referred to as the Total Drama series. It premiered on the Canadian cable channel Teletoon on July 9, 2007, and on the American cable television channel Cartoon Network on June 5, 2008. The show has gained a cult following and has spawned a franchise. A spin-off series, Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race premiered on September 7, 2015. A second spin-off, Total DramaRama, premiered on September 1, 2018 in the U.S., and on October 7, 2018, in Canada. On February 17, 2021, it was announced that a revival of Total Drama had been greenlit, with two new seasons to be produced for Cartoon Network and HBO Max in the United States.
Why These Seasons Rock
- It has a lot of great and memorable characters and contestants such as Tyler, Chris McLean, Duncan, Noah, Owen, Gwen, Leshawna, Heather, Trent, Harold, Izzy, Cody, Lindsay, Bridgette, Geoff, Alejandro, Mike, Zoey, B, Dawn, Brick, Jo, Dakota, Ella, Sky and Shawn. The characters are also displayed well as one-dimensional characters because that's what producers of real reality shows often do to people through judicious editing.
- The voice acting is great and vivid for Chris McLean and the contestants.
- The animation is written well and smooth just like the show itself.
- The humor is funny, creative and clever outside of the gross jokes.
- The character designs for the contestants look unique and creative.
- The soundtrack is great and full of great songs, especially the banger of a theme song.
- It gained a reboot in 2023 based off the 2007 season of the same name which is pretty great and a huge improvement over the previous three seasons.
- Overall, it’s a very nostalgic and unforgettable show of the 2000s that revolutionized animated reality shows.
Bad Qualities
- It went terribly downhill in season 5 and the downhill unfortunately killed the show until a decent reboot came in 2023 as mentioned above.
- As mentioned above, while the normal humor and jokes are really funny, the gross out humor is pretty disgusting and disturbing to hear.
