VH1 (originally an initialism of Video Hits One) is an American pay television channel officially launched on 1985. While it was good from the 80s to 2000s, the channel has severely gone downhill since 2010 as they started to focus mostly on reality shows.

Why It's Not Our VH1 Anymore

  1. The main problem with this era of the channel is that they didn't stay true to the channel's original routes and lacked the charm, wit, and creativity from 1985-2009 and they shared many of the same problems as Disney Channel's sitcoms from late 2009-2016 and Viacom's other shows.
  2. Like MTV and BET, they have shown no more interest in music videos.
  3. They have a whole bunch of bad shows such as:
    • Love & Hip Hop
    • Basketball Wives
    • Baseball Wives and more
      • They've also made terrible films such as The TLC Story.
      • Not to mention that many of these shows are literal reality shows about BLACK PEOPLE.
  4. Terrible writing that consisted of the following things:
    • A ton of bad morals such as cheating, lying, bullying, fighting, etc.
    • Overuse of bleeping in reality shows.
    • Pure filler padded in whenever needed.
    • Mean-spirited moments.
    • Childish/nonsensical plots.
  5. They sometimes had unlikable, one-dimensional, obnoxious, annoying, stereo-typical, unoriginal, or cliched characters.
  6. Some shows had no character development or redemption.
  7. This era ruined VH1's reputation once and for all and has shown no signs of returning.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The channel was good before 2010.
  2. They still have some good shows and movies like:

Reception

VH1 received major criticism in the 2010s for their focus on reality shows. VH1 has also been criticized for having churned out mass amounts of pop and radio-friendly rock music from its inception. Backlash against the network, however, only began to see its peak in the 2010s–with music-related content being dropped completely.
