The Beeps (originally known as The Wot-a-Lots) is a 2007 preschool animated series created by Impossible Television. It aired on Channel 5's Milkshake! block from 2007-2008, and has been running in syndication until 2015(?). It has later been distributed worldwide by Southern Star.

Why It's Beepin' Good

  1. This was Channel 5's biggest investment in an original animated series.
  2. Colourful and neat animation, even for 2007 standards. The CGI has aged well, even to this day!
  3. Even for a preschool series, it's full of slapstick, drama and comedy. This makes the series worth a watch for niche audiences.
  4. Good share of songs. This one sang by Leafy Beep even gets you kicked in!
  5. The theme song and credits are EXTREMELY catchy as well!
  6. It even gives you a chance to dance along and sing with the Beep-Beep Tree when he pops up.
  7. In terms of episode plots, this is one of the most story-driven Milkshake! shows, and even, one of the best shows that ever aired on Milkshake! throughout its span of 27 years. Heck, even Angels of Jarm ironically beats that and cranks it up to eleven!
  8. Every character (except for Smelly Beep) is highly likeable.
  9. The switch from stop motion animation using wood models to CGI animation is super impressive. Even better, both the stop motion and CGI tests are available to watch online!
  10. There's lots of lessons and morals to be offered from watching The Beeps.
  11. Not only is it aimed at preschoolers, but older audiences can enjoy it as well!
  12. To this day, the show isn't protected by copyright (likely because Impossible Television are defunct) and it's free to watch on YouTube!

"Yuk!" Qualities

  1. Development hell: It took an outrageous amount of 10 years to develop into a full series. This was probably because The Beeps started out using wood models & later became CGI.
  2. The CGI, whilst looking nice, can feel a bit uncanny at times. (depending on your view)
  3. Some characters aren't likeable:
    • Smelly Beep is unlikeable, because he is responsible for the gross-out humour in the series.
    • Yuk is somewhat unlikeable, and this would be cranked up to eleven in the episode Yuk Says No! where Yuk can be considered a spoiled brat throughout the entire episode, all because he wants a potato. Heck, this can even be considered as the worst episode of The Beeps so far.
  4. Despite being distrubuted worldwide by Southern Star and getting a DVD release, the show has fell into obscurity and even worse, the show has became lost media. Out of all 65 episodes, 26 are lost. This means that only 39 episodes are currently fully available to watch.
    • Malou Bonicos has posted a full episode on her website about The Beeps, if anyone wants to see it.
