Tom Hardy, Stephen Graham, and Peggy Lu reprise their roles from the previous films, while Cristo Fernández reprises his role as the Bartender from Spider-Man: No-Way Home. This film serves as the fallow-up to the 2024 film Madame Web, is the sequel to Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the third installment of the Venom film series created by Sony and is the fifth overall installment of the Sony's Spider-Man Universe series.

Synopsis

Eddie and Venom are on the run. Chased by their two worlds. As the net draws closer, the duo is forced to make a devastating decision that will end Venom and Eddie's last dance.

Qualities That Should Be Eaten By Venom

  1. The biggest issue with this movie is that unlike the previous two Venom films, there's little plot. Everything in this plays out like random events added to pad out the runtime of this film.
  2. Knull, the villain set up for this movie, is not the main villain. Instead, the Xenophage is. So what was the point of setting up Knull as the antagonist when he won't be in this movie?
  3. The tease of Venom being in the MCU is dashed, as that symbiote left behind by Eddie is already collected by Rex, meaning that we'll never have another Spider-Man vs Venom fight besides Spider-Man 3.
  4. Aside from Eddie and Venom, all of the characters are forgettable. Many viewers have admitted that they only cared about Eddie and Venom and cared little about the other characters.
  5. The pacing is also too fast for the other characters to get any memorability.
  6. Venom makes the stupid choice of transforming into his symbiote while dancing with Ms. Chen, despite him telling Eddie that being in the Venom suit will attract the Xenophage.
  7. The final action scene, while great, has a bunch of stuff going on at once that there's very little room to breathe.
  8. Sequel-Bait Ending: Knull swears revenge while the post-credits scene implies that Venom may still be alive.

Qualities That Will Eat Everybody

  1. The action scenes can still be fun to watch.
  2. Tom Hardy still gives a great performance as Eddie/Venom.
  3. The relationship between Eddie and Venom is still as spot-on as usual, and they are still the best characters in the film.
  4. Venom's sacrifice was surprisingly emotional, given how well-executed that was.
  5. The song that plays while Eddie reminisces about the times he had with Venom, "Memories" from Maroon 5, is nothing short of heartwarming.
  6. Had this movie ended without the release of Kraven the Hunter or the tease of Knull or possibly Venom being alive, this would've ended the Sony Spider-Man's film universe on a decent note.
  7. The visual effects are great and are a pretty big step-up from previous movies.
  8. This movie can still be great, entertaining, and fun to watch, especially for people who don't like the Sony's Spider-Man Universe movies and the people who love the Venom movies.

Reception

Venom: The Last Dance received mixed reviews from critics and fans with criticism aimed at its screenplay while Hardy's performance, action sequences, and visual effects were praised. It has grossed $475.4 million worldwide, making it the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2024. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 41% of 208 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 4.7/10. The website's consensus reads: "The always watchable Tom Hardy injects ample charisma into Venom: The Last Dance, but the offering buckles under its convoluted tonal ambitions." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 41 out of 100, based on 46 critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B–" on an A+ to F scale (the lowest of the trilogy), while those surveyed by PostTrak gave it a 73% overall positive score, with 55% saying they would "definitely recommend" it.

Future

While this movie has been stated to be the last film in the Venom franchise and Tom Hardy has even stated that this is the official end of his character in the Venom franchise, he did state that he is open to playing Venom again in the future.
