Vestigial Peter is the second episode of the twelfth season of Family Guy.

Plot

One day a store salesman discovers a lump on Peter's neck looking just like him that is then found to be his vestigial twin. However, when Chip, which Peter names him, has sex with his boss while wanting to have a life of his own, Peter gets fed up and risks his own life to get Chip separated from his body.

Why It Vestigally Sucks

  1. Chip, while cute and likable, has a very annoying high pitched voice which can easily get on your nerves, and he never shuts up.
  2. There is tons of pointless filler that has nothing to do with the episode, such as Stewie asking if he should give up on breakfast and Peter and Chip going on a camping trip.
  3. There is a disturbing scene where Peter reads a map and blood comes out of nowhere.
  4. Plot Hole: Although he was coming from Peter's Body, Chip was born with glasses.
  5. Lois is very unlikable, as in a flashback she physically abuses Peter all because he gets the groceries without her instead of being grateful; she even throws a can at Chris afterward, which is both child abuse and domestic abuse; latter, she makes Peter wear a dress, then takes a picture and calls him a "gaybo".
  6. Peter for half of the episode is unlikable, as he tries to get rid of Chip by having a dingo eat him and poop him up on Joe's lawn.
  7. Chip's song about go-carts and cotton candy on the DVD release of this episode is very repetitive and annoying.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The ending is pretty heartwarming.
  2. There are a few funny moments, such as the "Choose You Own Adventure Or Have Pie In Bed" cutaway and when Peter and Lois go to Sears.
  3. The scene where they sing the opening intro is decent.
    • It brings back Lois' music talents outside of the normal intro.
    • Lois is cute when she plays the piano, as she usually is.
    • This one of the few times the family, outside of Peter, has a heartwarming moment in modern Family Guy.
  4. Chip is really cute and likable (despite his annoying voice).
    • Stewie, Brian, Chris, Meg and Peter (for the other half of the episode) are also likeable. For Peter, he does learn the error of his ways and isn’t unlikeable for the entire episode, for Brian, he isn’t flanderized like he usually is, and for Meg, this is one of the few times during seasons 8-14 where she has her original personality.
  5. "BRIAN! BROWSER HISTORY! CLEAR IT!"

Reception

"Vestigial Peter" received mixed-to-negative reviews from professional critics and fans, and IMDb has it at a 5.6/10 rating.[1] The A.V. Club's Eric Thurm graded it with a C+ upon its original airing, but criticized its plot for being overly repetitive,[2] and PhantomStrider ranked it as the 7th worst Family Guy episode in 2015.[3]
