Vib-Ribbon is a musical video game created by Masaya Matsuura, developed by NanaOn-Sha and released on December 9, 1999 and September 1, 2001 for the PlayStation console.

Why It Rocks

  1. It's an innovative take on musical video games at that time with the availability to even put your own music by inserting a CD on the console.
  2. Basic but charming art style that is mostly made out of vectors
  3. Vibri herself is a cute protagonist with a silly attitude. Her design is adorable as well.
  4. Catchy original songs composed by Laugh & Peace
  5. The different phases Vibri gets are pretty funny to look at.

Bad Qualities

  1. While the art style is well made, it can come across as creepy uncanny and even sad when you consider the lack of colors and backgrounds the game has.
    • Even Vibri can look unintentionally creepy.
  2. The controls, while OK, can give you a cheap death if you don't press the button exactly at the side of the obstacle.
  3. Depending on the music, the difficulty meter can be sickingly hard.
