WWE 2K22 is a professional wrestling video game developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. It is the twenty-second overall installment of the video game series based on WWE, the ninth game under the WWE 2K banner, and the successor to 2019's WWE 2K20. It was released on March 11, 2022, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Why It Actually Hit Different

  1. For starters, this game is a big improvement over WWE 2K20, as it fixed a ton of critical bugs and glitches, upgraded the graphics, and overall is a better experience. This is due to the game having 2 years in development rather than just having 1 year of development, in which it should have been for the series to be a good game.
  2. This is the first WWE game to be on Ninth Generation consoles, and those versions received a big graphical upgrade making the wrestlers look more realistic then ever.
  3. This is also the first WWE game to have cross-platform community creations, need a wrestler from a other platform? You can download it here on a different console.
  4. New features such as Custom Select Portraits, in which you can make your selection portrait like the real character you are creating.
  5. Better Create A Wrestler system, now you can choose between 4 different styles, and the body types are now more realistic looking.
  6. Beautiful graphics that are a massive improvement over WWE 2K20, as the wrestlers now actually look like their counterparts. This is due to the full body scans provided by the wrestlers.
  7. MyRise mode is an improvement over the previous two WWE 2K games, in which are just story modes with Buzz and Red And Tre with your own character. Now here, you can choose whatever brand you want, choose to be a face or a heel, and choose your own storyline.
    • Unlike WWE 2K18, 2K19, and 2K20. You don't have to worry about loot-boxes or loot-packs in MyCareer, now known as MyRise anymore. Now you can freely customize your superstar to the likeness you want.
  8. MyGM returns after being absent since SmackDown VS Raw 2008.
  9. Improved sound design, as now you can hear groaning from the wrestlers when you fight in a match.
  10. The 2K Showcase mode is great here, this time you go through the story and timeline of Rey Mysterio from the past to present matches.
  11. The VC Unlockables are very cheap, as they all cost 1,000 VC.

Bad Qualities

  1. MyRise, while an improvement over WWE 2K19 and 2K20's MyCareer mode, it does have some flaws.
    1. The game still doesn't allow you to free-roam, like you used to be able to do in WWE 2K18.
    2. The game has some references to WWE 2K20's MyCareer mode, such as Chase being revealed to be Ribbie in can come off as a bit unnecessary to some people.
    3. Unlike WWE 2K19 & 20, the MyRise mode will not unlock any wrestlers as you play the mode. Resulting in players having to re-create them from scratch.
      • In fact, most of the content in MyRise cannot be unlocked at all. Besides the arenas and Create-A-Wrestler parts.
    4. While the voice acting is decent for the most part, some wrestlers sound like they were recorded on a low-quality microphone.
    5. You can no longer earn VC to unlock the VC Unlockables. Causing players to buy the WWE 2K22 SuperCharger for $5.
  2. MyFaction is a new mode to the game, where you open loot boxes to gain cards. In which require VC to be obtained, unlike WWE 2K20 which can be gained easily in MyCareer mode. You have to purchase it with real money in WWE 2K22, in which can only be used in this mode thankfully.
    • This makes this game the first ever WWE 2K game to have micro-transactions.
    • Also this mode is online only, so if the servers have shutdown (As of January 3, 2024), you cannot play the mode, and since the mode had micro-transactions in it, you lost all of your money.
  3. The game does suffer from a few glitches, such as the group image editor being bugged and getting stuck on saving, community creations not uploading correctly and sometimes suddenly disappearing, image uploader sometimes not showing your uploaded images, and some crashing issues. Some of these have been fixed in later updates.
  4. The game servers sometimes have connection issues, resulting in some features not working.
  5. Logan Paul being in the The Whole Dam Pack DLC was rather a awful choice, since Logan Paul has been in multiple controversies over the years. Although it does somewhat make sense, since Logan Paul became a part of the WWE roster during 2022.
  6. The online servers for the game were shutdown not even 2 years after release on January 3, 2024. Making this the shortest lifespan for a WWE game to have their servers online.
