War of the Simps is the 44th episode of the tenth season of SMG4. This episode was aired on November 14, 2020.

Synopsis

Fishy Boopkins and Whimpu are competing for Korone's affection, but their competition gets out of hand. Saiko tries to end their quarrel by introducing them to Korone herself to prove her point that they were being used by a guy pretending to be a girl online... and things get a bit crazy from there.

Bad Qualities

  1. The premise and concept alone is outright horrid as it mainly involves two extremely perverted characters going after something they really love in a very creepy manner.
  2. Fishy Boopkins and Whimpu are the worst aspects of this episode, being extremely perverted as they're simping on a popular VTuber named Inugami Korone, and trying desparatly hard to gain attention from her. Later on, they become extremely desperate to gain waifus after being aware of Nathaniel Bandy's waifu maker in his waifu factory, which they get extremely perverted over.
    • What makes this worse is that at one point when fighting over Inugami Korone, Fishy and Whimpu go as far as to legit try to kill each other with lightsabers.
    • Also, with the waifu maker scene, they go as far as to say disturbing lines such as Whimpu telling all of the waifus to step on him.
    • While it is understandable that both characters are anime enthusiasts, there is no excuse why they both acted like this to each other. Both are fans of anime, but until this episode, it has never gotten to the point of uncontrollable perversion.
      • Sure, Boopkins' anime obsession is a little uncomfortable, but this episode takes his trait way too far. Thankfully, it would be toned down after this episode, while Whimpu would be demoted to just a minor character (along with Belle and Rob) after this.
  3. Saiko is also no better, as she's (as always) shoehorned in this episode into the main role that would've been a lot more better if she wasn't in it. Here, she's a poor example of a character who's the only sane person who tries to teach Boopkins and Whimpu a lesson about simping, which doesn't work. SMG4 or possibly, Meggy would've been better choices for that role instead of her.
    • The scene where she yells "STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!" at Boopkins and Whimpu is really startling to listen to.
    • She also did some mean-spirited moments to them too, like hitting them with a fan and throwing them into the factory.
  4. Once they find out Inugami Korone was fake this whole time thanks to Nathaniel Bandy's presence and all, they both extremely depressed, even references to literal suicide such as how Whimpu says that his life is meaningless now.
  5. Misleading Thumbnail: Mario's shown to be in a major portion of the thumbnail, despite the fact that he doesn't even show up til 8 minutes in and hardly contributes to the plot.
  6. The Waifu-Lifus' song, which is an obvious parody of the Oompa-Loompa Doopity-Doo song from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, is extremely cringeworthy to listen to.
  7. Wasted potential of Nathaniel Bandy and Beeg Jon, with their roles feel extremely unfitting with what their videos are like.
    • While it has been mentioned a few times on Nathaniel Bandy's channel that Bandy himself is an anime fan, it seems questionable as to how he happened to guest star in an anime-involved episode when his channel mainly consists of Nintendo gaming. There could have been better guest YouTuber picks instead of him, preferrably one that is more involved in discussing about anime like Totally Not Mark.
  8. In the end, as Saiko tries to bring up a lesson that simping is dangerous, which leads to a good moral. Unfortunately, Fishy Boopkins and Whimpu learn nothing from this as they plan to continue this behavior later on, which cancels out the moral of the episode.
  9. Horrible Ending: As Whimpu, Fishy Boopkins, and the rest escape, Nathaniel Bandy somehow realizes that he left Beeg Jon behind as it's cut to a very uncomfortable scene involving the "waifus" capturing Beeg Jon while being burned as a sacrifice, although Beeg Jon feels incredibly unfazed.

Good Qualities

  1. Nathaniel Bandy, while not the best guest choice, is the only likable character.
  2. It does attempt to teach the moral that obsessive simping and perversion is dangerous. Had the episode ended with Boopkins and Whimpu learning from this, the episode may have been better received.
    • Speaking of simping, you could argue that this episode mocks the recent trend of "simping" on the internet, even if the episode made a bad attempt at humor with this satirization.
  3. Fishy Boopkins at least would never take his simp tendencies too far ever again after this episode, despite not learning his lesson. Same probably going to Whimpu too.
