WarioWare: Get It Together! is a minigame compilation game developed by Nintendo EPD and Intelligent Systems for the Nintendo Switch. This serves as the tenth installment in the WarioWare series. The game is succeed with WarioWare: Move It!.
Plot
The game opens up with some of Diamond City's residents lining up to purchase the fictional critically acclaimed game called Super Pyoro. The opening cuts to a scene where Wario and his friends in WarioWare, Inc. create a handheld game with the collaboration of each other. As soon as Wario begins to play it, the handheld game glitches and after throwing the game in a fit of frustration, the handheld game comes to life; sucking Wario and his friends into to the game's world, transforming them into miniature, chibi-like versions of themselves with special abilities. Now Wario and his friends must play their way out of the game's world by taking on over 200 microgames.
Why It's Getting Itself Together
- The graphics here are colorful to look at and it fits well with the tone of the game. From the menu screen to even the microgames itself, the game has visuals that are on par with a lot of modern-day cartoons like The Amazing World of Gumball.
- The animated cutscenes combines 2D with a live-action-like environment, like what Space Jam and Who Framed Roger Rabbit did.
- It is also the first time to have a hybrid of 2D and live-action cutscenes in this game.
- Heck, even the cast is also a cool animated cutscene.
- Each character has its own unique ability to stand out from the rest when playing a microgame:
- Wario can use a jetpack and shoulder bash;
- Mona can use a boomerang that can be controlled freely;
- Young Cricket can jump really high;
- Master Mantis can use anti-gravity to land on ceilings;
- Dr. Crygor can swim in any direction;
- Dribble and Spitz can shoot bazookas horizontally;
- Orbulon can use a tractor beam to lift up objects and whatnot; ´
- Ashley can fly around in her broom and cast spells;
- Red can drop bombs;
- 18-Volt can shoot discs;
- Mike can shoot notes vertically;
- Kat and Ana can throw shurikens horizontally and jump nonstop;
- 9-Volt can use his yo-yo vertically and can move nonstop;
- Jimmy T can thrust his hips in multiple directions;
- 5-Volt can teleport anywhere and creates a shockwave, and the list goes on. This concept alone is interesting. Even for WarioWare standards.
- Penny can use her Jet Tank One to put down fire or pour something;
- Lulu can jump multiple times and ground pound;
- and Pyoro can use his tongue diagonally.
- Ashley and Orbulon are the best characters in this game, due to their aforementioned abilities and they can somewhat surpass more than 100 points.
- Good voice acting since the VAs in WarioWare Gold return to voice the characters.
- Over 200 Microgames and there are more themes for each players such as That's Life, Culture, and Fantasy.
- There is a good variety of multiplayer in this game. Story mode and the Play-o-Pedia can have 1-2 players, Variety pack has 1-4, and Wario Cup is basically an online game mode.
- Another neat thing is that you can actually play with local wireless mode for multiplayer (simply play with 2 systems).
- Missions return in this game with more varieties.
- Penny's new theme song is catchy.
- The "Prezzies" can boost the levels of the WarioWare employees making their powers improved, mostly happens in Wario Cup.
- This is also the first time to have game with "Post-game Story Mode" after the player defeats the final boss.
- There is also a true secret final boss in the post game.
- The idea of having to play microgames with a different character who has different abilities sounds interesting. This game introduced that knowing what good ideas it has.
- You can customize your character in this game like having to change the color or filters of your character.
- There are some funny moments in this game as expected from WarioWare. From the microgames's absurd yet humorous nature to the cutscenes alone.
- The Variety pack minigame, "Balloon Bang" also made a return in this game with more fun elements such as the bicycle pump. It also has a better explosion than the ''Mega Party Games'' and ''Smooth Moves''.
- For the first time ever, you get to legit play as Pyoro in the microgames. He has been playable in his own minigames, but this is his first time joining Wario and the crew.
Bad Qualities
- The dialogue is limited, just like in the previous WarioWare games, except its predecessor, WarioWare Gold. Sure, it does utilizes the same updated voice actors from Gold but still.
- Speaking of WIR#1, the cutscenes are short.
- Also, they can make people who are used to the more animated cutscenes bored and tipped-off.
- There are some mean-spirited moments:
- While this can be considered hilarious, Mona's animals are trashing her room causing Mona to get so mad and forces them to clean her room.
- 5-Volt nearly checking 9-Volt using her "Gamer" vision when he is about to play Epic Augmented Reality Game, though this is something she usually does.
- Leo using his puppetry ninja spells to terrorize people in Sleepytown Village.
- The Club Goers booing when Joe is seen working out alone in Jimmy T.'s cutscene.
- Orbulon abducting characters when they arrive in the Culture stage (before Orbulon's intro cutscene).
- While this can be considered hilarious, Orbulon abducts an old lady, dropping her, and getting crushed by a lucky cat.
- 5-Volt scaring 9-Volt when the characters try to wake her up.
- Everyone (except Red, Master Mantis, and Lulu) chasing Wario after he programmed his game horribly.
- In one of Ashley's microgames, Rock Candy, if the player breaks the candy or the candy drops, the kid cries and is disappointed.
- In one of Ashley's microgames, Dessert Defender, if the object hits the flan, the kid is shocked.
- In one of Ashley's microgames, Ice-Cream Lean, if the ice cream falls, the kid cries and is disappointed.
- Although Prezzies are better additions to boost their powers, some of these can have little effect when the crews' levels are higher.
- Depending on how the player feels, some characters can feel weird to use like 9-Volt who keeps skateboarding left and right, or Kat & Ana jumping endlessly. In other words, you have to get used to how a character works.
- The Dr. Crygor microgame Bare Necessities (a reference to The Jungle Book) can be considered a bit inappropriate at times, as it features implied nudity as the robot's crotch area is covered via a fig leaf.
- However, this is not the only microgame that shows nudity, Hot Flash/Heat Wave from WarioWare: Touched! and WarioWare Gold is the other microgame that shows this trait.
Trivia
- This, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, and Mario Party Superstars are the only games that first appeared in the Nintendo Direct E3 2021 to have a front box art filled with gameplays (Get It Together's microgames, Banana Mania's Challenge mode and Party games, and MP Superstars' minigames).
- Whenever Ashley's winning animation approaches, it takes a few seconds for her to actually smile
Reception
The game was well-received by critics and gamers with praise for keeping its charm on the series and unique twist alongside the art style but criticized its short length. The game received 76/100 on Metacritic, indicating "generally favorable reviews".
