"Weight Gain 4000" is the second episode of the first season of the American animated television series South Park.
Why It’s Beefcake
- Unlike the pilot, "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe", some jokes in it are somewhat funny:
- Mr. Garrison gives up on trying to kill Kathie Lee Gifford, but Stan immediately reminds him of one of the things she did, causing Garrison to change his mind, stating "The bitch must die!".
- Cartman's unintelligence results in more funny moments:
- Although this may be disturbing to some, Cartman gaining weight but thinking that he's, "getting all buff", instead, and still thinking the same way, at the end.
- Not to mention the quote, "goddamn it, that's a big fat ass!"
- Cartman believes that whales are unintelligent and that they live in igloos, even though that makes him a hypocrite, as he's unintelligent himself.
- Although this may be disturbing to some, Cartman gaining weight but thinking that he's, "getting all buff", instead, and still thinking the same way, at the end.
- Chef's somewhat inappropriate song about Kathie Lee Gifford.
- In addition to the above, it's overall an improvement from the pilot, as the plot is more interesting, and the episode has better jokes.
- Wendy has a lot of character development in this episode.
- Mr. Garrison's rivalry towards Gifford is an interesting subplot and has a decent backstory.
- It's the first episode to be produced in computer animation, unlike many episodes in blurry quality that couldn't be remastered.
- The animation, while not great, is far better than, "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe".
- Beefcake, BEEFCAKE!
Bad Qualities
- As mentioned on WIB #5, the animation is not that great, but still far better than the animation in, "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe".
- As mentioned on WIB #1, Cartman's weight can be disturbing to some.
