The villainous Doronbo gang are searching for the Skull Stone. Standing in their way are Gan and Ai, who become the masked heroes Yatterman-1 and Yatterman-2, respectively. The two are aided in their adventures by a large mechanical dog, Yatterwan.

Why It Rocks

  1. Unlike Time Bokan, this doesn't the same concept as the previous series, as this shows are focus to the travel around the world to be more like superhero, while some episodes are keeping the time travel concept, even it can be repetitive.
  2. Unlike Time Bokan, this anime series can talk for the Robot, and each robot have different animals.
    • Yatter-Wan and Yatter-King was a dog
    • Yatter-Pelican was a Pelican
    • Yatter-Dojira was a Dinosaurs
    • Yatter-Phant was a Elephant
    • Yatter-Panda was a Panda
    • Yatter-Bull was a Bulldog
    • Yatter-Angler was a Angler Fish
    • Yatter-Yokozuna was a hybrid Dog Sumo
      • Not only that, but each robot animals has different mechanical foods to eat to making more strength and adding a small robots to fight the Doronbo Robots and his Minions in each episodes.
  3. Doronbo Gang is likable but funny villains, as it constant failure to Dokurobei (The overreaching antagonist of this series), it gives funny (but sometimes cruel) punishment with each episodes.
    • The heroes itself is likeable, too.
  4. There's a tons of funny moments here and there, even some moments can be inappropriate in some scenes.
    • To making more balanced, the show has some tearjerker scenes.
  5. His theme song and soundtrack are memorable.
  6. The animation is really good, even it reused the animation (such as explosion) from past Tatsunoko shows.
  7. The voice actors is good, both Japanese and Italians.
  8. It got remake and live-action films, which both of these are still good.

"Punishment Time" Qualities

  1. As mentioned above, this concept could be repetitive.
  2. As usual for Tatsunoko animation, it can be repetitive, as they reused some scenes and particularly for explosion scenes.
    • Also, there's several animation error in this anime. It's very common from 70s, due to low budget/rushed, certain animation can be unfinished, resulting the animation errors.
    • The later episodes is becoming downgrade in term of animation, often time, the face can be looking off-model and low quality.
  3. Some moments can be inappropriate, as some scenes can be revealed the Doronjo's body without bikini, even for kids, at the time in Japan, kids may see several inappropriate scenes for kids anime show, and that inappropriate scenes had been censored in most countries.
  4. Some punishment can be cruel and unfunny.
  5. Speaking of punishment, the Dokurobei can be unlikable, as he punished Doronbo gang unfairly, even Doronbo gang has been succeeded to getting a Skull Stone, it's still punishing him unfairly due to Doronbo Gang is still failed against Yatterman.
