You're in the Picture is a 1961 American game show that aired on CBS and was hosted by Jackie Gleason, who was well known for being Ralph Kramden in The Honeymooners.
Gameplay
A four-person celebrity panel would insert their heads inside a life-sized picture of a famous scene or song lyric and then take turns asking Gleason a yes or no question to determine which scene they were in. If they were able to identify the scene, 100 CARE gifts were donated in their name; if they couldn't, the gifts were donated in Gleason's name.
Why It's Not in the Picture
- The talents of the celebrities involved in the premiere were wasted.
- The concept behind the show was unworkable because the contestants often didn't know what picture they were in, resulting in an incredibly awkward show.
- The jokes are unfunny, and said jokes can make the show very awkward at times.
- Even though Jackie Gleason is largely regarded as the best part of the show, he was unable to make much of the mediocre material he was given.
- The prize for winning the show is bland and uninteresting; 100 CARE Packages were donated in the winner's honor and Jackie Gleason's name to the losers.
- For all of these reasons, the show was canceled after just two episodes.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- Jackie Gleason's apology for the show is not only regarded as the show's best moment, but also as one of Gleason's funniest moments in his long career.
