Zig Zag Arena was a Brazilian television program of the game show genre, produced and aired by TV Globo from October 3 to December 19, 2021. Hosted by Fernanda Gentil, the game show was created by Boninho and general and artistic direction by Raoni Carneiro.
It was established as one of the biggest flops ever aired by TV Globo, reaching fourth place, being defeated by Band and SBT. Only 11 out of the 18 recorded episodes aired on the network.
Why There's No Zig Zag in the Arena
- This game show is nothing than a poor attempt of Globo making their version of Passa ou Repassa from SBT, which is better than this game show.
- The set is very bland since it looks more like a nightclub than a competitive game show set.
- It tries to be hip with the millennials, using words like "canceled", when someone from one of the two teams that compete in the program is eliminated, and "you are ridiculous" when it is used by the game show's commentators.
- Fernanda Gentil, despite not being very bad, again gives a weak and simple hosting like the other bad entertainment program on Globo that she previously hosted, Se Joga.
- The program rounds are too complicated and also difficult to understand, in comparison with the simplicity and ease of the Video Game of Vídeo Show, also from Globo and Passa ou Repassa from SBT.
- The game show's commentators are too exaggerated for talking over each other, making the game show not so fun to watch.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- Despite being weak and simple, Fernanda Gentil's hosting isn't all that bad.
Reception
Despite all the expectations, Zig Zag Arena did not please the public, who mostly criticized the program on social media throughout its airing. In addition, one of the most requested topics on social media was the return of the extinct Video Game, hosted by Angélica in the 2000s, in place of Zig Zag Arena for the easy-to-understand rounds.
Due to low ratings and a high rejection from the public, the program was shortened to its end and canceled on December 19, 2021, one month ahead as previously scheduled, which was originally January 30, 2022, with only 11 of the 18 recorded episodes being aired. The space of the program was occupied by the film session Campeões de Bilheteria until the premiere of season two of The Voice+.
Trivia
- The program did not air on November 7, 2021, due to the tribute to the singer Marília Mendonça, who tragically died in a plane crash two days earlier on November 5, 2021.
