Zool is a video game franchise developed in 1993 by Gremlin Interactive for a lot of platform, the franchise was mostly known on DOS and Amiga.

Gameplay

The gameplay is quite simple, the player's goal is to reach the other end of the map collecting as many candies as possible and at the same time eliminating opponents along the way.

Why They Rock

  1. Both of these games have a really good graphics for the mid-early 90's standards especially the backgrounds and sprites. The animations are also well made for that time.
  2. Both of these games have absolutely catchy soundtracks that even today sound good, especially the Amiga and the Super Nintendo versions that had the best soundtrack out of them.
  3. The controls are absolutely great, tight and responsive for a platform 2D games and even today they're pretty solid.
  4. The level design in both of these games is very polished and the levels look very colorful, even for a game made for kids.
  5. The idea for making aplatform game about ninja who lives in a candy world is actually a very good idea.
  6. The gameplay is extremely fun in these games, this is especially true with the first game.
  7. Both of these games take more than 1 hour to beat which is a pretty long time for a platform game from the mid-90's.

Bad Qualities

  1. The controls can be slippery at times, especially in the Master System and Game Gear versions.
  2. Some of the ports are mediocre or downright awful, most notably the Game Boy version that is considered to be the worst port of the game.

Reception

Both games received positive reviews from critics and players and are still considered one of the best platform games for Amiga or DOS.
