Trent

Synopsis

The teams compete in Western-themed challenges, as Trent keeps throwing the game for Gwen from the opposing team. Shortly after, their relationship ends after Trent confesses him throwing the game. Justin from the other team finds out about this and blackmails Gwen into voting off Trent.

Why It Belongs in Crazytown

  1. Trent is the worst character in this episode as his flanderization went too far as he went from a kind and understanding sane guy to a creepy simp who cares too much about Gwen and the number 9. It gets to the point where he tries to throw the challenge for his team just so Gwen's team could win. Also, he says horrible things to her at the wrong times such as "utterly adorable" when Gwen's team has cow udders as hats, and "break a leg" when Gwen was on top of a high diving board, just to land on the horse. Even worse, this is HIS elimination episode!
  2. Unnecessary gross-out humor, such as the horse farting and Owen drinking water from the water guns.
    • Due to the latter part, he gets tired from running, albeit costing the challenge.
  3. Plot holes: How did Trent survive falling on top of a fence? Even worse, his body looks like it's completely broken; in the next scene, he's absolutely fine with no explanation whatsoever.
    • Although he has gotten hurt a lot in the previous season, at least he was fine by the next episodes, instead of being fine right in the next scene.
    • Also in regards to Owen, he drinks the water from the squirt guns because he was thirsty, causing Chris to throw a tantrum and change the second round of the challenge. This tantrum and challenge change was unnecessary as Chris could have just refilled the squirt guns with water.
  4. Duncan acts like an asshole in this episode as he keeps bullying Harold a lot for no reason.
    • It gets even worse to the point where in one scene, he knocks off the barrel Harold was taking a shower in as after the challenge, the contestants took a shower in barrels, and made soap get in his eyes.
  5. There was some cheating in the first challenge, such as Owen jumping on the horse and crushing it due to his weight and then running to the horse to try to catch him, yet he gets a point, despite the Screaming Gaffers' protest of cheating. Also, Justin didn't do the challenge at all because he doesn't want to ruin his looks. Even worse, Chris didn't care.
  6. Also, the whole "fight to the death" scene was complete filler and is only there to make the episode go to the 22-minute mark.
  7. The infamous scene where Gwen and Trent break up, which angered many fans especially Gwen x Trent fans.
  8. Justin blackmails Gwen into making her to tell the Killer Grips to vote him off, and also thinks that Gwen and Trent are making an alliance to get to the final 2.
    • Also, Beth, Lindsay, and Owen also agree with Justin and his lies, and it gets even worse in "The Chefshank Redemption", where they want her to lose challenges for her team.
    • They tried too hard on making Gwen a bad person, as she gets demonized for simply breaking up with Trent, when she had a valid reason to do so.
  9. This was also a bad sendoff to Trent as he never returns to Action and doesn't compete in any future season.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Some scenes can be funny, such as:
    • Leshawna and Heather arguing in the mounting challenge.
    • Leshawna's butt, causing Chris to mock to the audience and contestants about her, lashing out as a result.
    • Owen chasing the horse because it doesn't want to get squished.
    • Harold's line: "I have cow boobies (udders) on my head!".
  2. Trent somewhat got a redemption in the aftermaths, where it has some explanation on why he acted like this.
    • In the episode "The Aftermath: 2", he at first didn't want to talk to Gwen after she entered the stage, however when Gwen was going to a dunk tank filled with pirahnas, he tries to intervene and says he understands Gwen's side of the story since he threw the challenges. After that, they finally seem to forgive each other.
    • In the World Tour episode, the "Aftermath Aftermayhem", Gwen and Trent sit next to each other after Tyler failed the challenge, and Gwen cracks a joke about Trent's nursing skills, much to Trent's laughter. This shows they are both in good terms.
  3. Duncan told the truth why he was bullying Harold because of how he got Courtney eliminated in the previous season, though this does not excuse him from being unlikable.

Reception

While not as controversial as Sundae Muddy Sundae, this episode was panned by many fans due to Trent's flanderization going too far, Gwen and Trent breaking up, and Justin blackmailing Gwen and making her vote off her ex-boyfriend.

Trivia

General

  • Just like the previous season, the final ten castmates consist of four people on one team (a red-colored team that starts with "Killer" in its name) and six on the other (a green-colored team that starts with "Screaming"):
    • Total Drama Island:
      • Screaming Gophers: Owen, Gwen, Heather, Leshawna, Lindsay, and Trent.
      • Killer Bass: Duncan, DJ, Geoff, and Bridgette.
    • Total Drama Action:
      • Screaming Gaffers: Gwen, Heather, Duncan, Leshawna, DJ, and Harold.
      • Killer Grips: Justin, Lindsay, Beth, and Owen.
  • The cowboy hats that Chris, Beth, Justin, and Lindsay wear are the same shape as Geoff's, although all of them are different colors.
    • Although this is never addressed, in addition to the cowboy hats, Justin, Trent, and Beth switch their normal shoes out for cowboy boots for the duration of the tiebreaker challenge.

Continuity

  • Gwen breaks up with Trent in this episode, making them the second couple in the series, and the first in Total Drama Action, to break up.
  • This episode shows that Chef is now starting to rebel against Chris, as he is refusing to wear certain outfits and even ties him up, possibly because he is still angry at Chris for not giving him his paycheck.
  • Duncan admits in this episode that he continues to bully Harold, because he rigged the votes and eliminated Courtney last season. This reveals that he eventually found out the truth about her wrongful elimination, even though he initially thought Heather was behind it.
  • This is the second time Trent and Owen are in the bottom two.
    • The first time was during the second post-merge elimination during "Search and Do Not Destroy" in Total Drama Island, although Owen's name just happened to be called last.

References

  • This episode's title is a parody of the movie 3:10 to Yuma.
  • Justin’s Neck Modeling Contract is a reference to Jonesy’s Neck Modeling job for International Parts Modelling in the 6teen episode The Hunted.
  • The horse challenge is a parody of the movie The Mask of Zorro, involving a scene where he jumps on the horse from a tall building (and misses).
  • In the recap of the last episode, Chris states that the sandcastle made by the Grips is named "Casa Dos Gwen," which is a mixture of the two names previously given to it, "Casa Gwen" and "Casa Dos Paper-Mâché."

Goofs

  • In "No Pain, No Game," Leshawna states that she's wearing a weave, but in this episode, it curls up into an afro as if it were normal hair. Later in the season, Heather mocks Leshawna for her weave.
    • Despite Leshawna's hair curling in this episode, every time she has been wet previously, her hair is normal.
  • When the camera is zoomed out before Chris says that the Killer Grips will have to vote someone off, DJ is missing his udder hat while all the other members of his team have their hats on. However, it appears on his head in the next scene.
  • When the castmates meet up with Chris for the tie-breaker challenge, Leshawna's pants show no signs of being ripped by the weathervane earlier. However, she may have simply changed her pants.
  • When Leshawna yells at Heather, Lindsay appears to have no teeth.
  • When Duncan trips Harold, he falls into a water trough. However, when zoomed out, Duncan is clearly not anywhere near the trough.
  • When Gwen decides to climb up the diving board, Duncan is lacking his nose piercing.
  • When Trent and Beth are caught in the rope, Trent is seen having only one leg.
  • After the Gaffers find rope during the calf roping contest, Leshawna and Harold both rope Justin. Even though Harold roped him first, Leshawna's rope is lower on Justin's body than Harold's is.
  • When the Gaffers win the tie-breaker challenge, Owen is not shown tied up.
  • During the scene when Gwen, Trent, and Justin are outside of the communal bathroom, they're in front of Camp Wawanakwa's washroom rather than the one on the abandoned film lot.
