3Xtreme is a sports-racing game developed and published by 989 Studios, released in 1999 for the PlayStation console. It is the 3rd and final game in the "Xtreme" series.
Why It's Gone to the (3)Xtreme (in a Bad Way)
- It doesn't improve over the first two games, in fact it might be a downgrade from the first two games.
- There are only 5 tracks, all of which have variations.
- Each character only has one equipment to race with, which is lazy and this make the game having not enough variaty.
- The graphics are ugly, especially for 1999 standards, because the character models are blocky, the color being terrible to look at and being undetailled, games like Pac-Man World and Rayman 2: The Great Escape look better than this and we're released in 1999.
- The gameplay suffers from framerate drop.
- The trick system is very bad and not great to use, due to the awful animation or the poor controls.
- It lacks a difficulty option.
- Freestyle mode, while being a good addition, is very short to complete, lasting only 1 hour.
- The controls are terrible, since they are stiff, clunky and unresponsive, they are way worse than the first two games, and they also lack speed balance.
Redeeming Qualities
- It has a music video from the rock band Ultraspank.
- Good soundtrack.
Reception
3Xtreme received mostly negative reviews from the critics.
