A Dreadful Date is the 57th episode of season of season 1 of Oggy and the Cockroaches: Next Generation.
Plot
Sorry to see her uncle so sad, Piya decides to help her, but her initiatives only make the situation worse... Who said that children should take care of adults' problems?
Why It's Indeed Dreadful
- To get the elephant out of the bag, this is an Oggy torture episode, as the cockroaches are unlikable here and are probably at their worst in terms of Next Generation, we know that they want to make Oggy's life miserable but here it goes way too far.
- The cockroaches even ruined Oggy's date by stealing his strawberry pie and causing him to throw a coffee cup to Olivia by accident. Not only that, but she also breaks up with Oggy and leaves his house angrily after that all because of one mishap. This can be offensive to some people.
- The cockroaches not only ruins Oggy's date, but they even laugh at Oggy after Olivia left and made him cry on purpose.
- This episode even rehashes "Roach Vision" (mainly the scene where Oggy dates Olivia) from the original series, since that episode also has a scene of the cockroaches ruining Olivia's date, but this episode manages to make it worse and insulting and it is also a perfect example of Olivia's flanderization during the seventh season of the original series and Next Generation.
- What matters worse, it also rehashes "Timber!," from this show but unlike "Roach Vision" and "Timber!," A Dreadful Date is no better.
- Several mean-spirited moments, such as bees as they are also unlikable as well, as when Oggy visits to give Olivia flowers, the bees want to by letting Oggy put the flowers in the house, only for Olivia to get stung. Not only that, but when Oggy gets back home, the cockroaches laugh at him AGAIN.
- Piya also manages to accidently destroy Olivia's house by making the radio too loud and gets angry at Oggy again by blaming it at him when it is Piya's fault.
- The birds also manage to ruin Oggy's cloud of Olivia on purpose by flying into it when Oggy comes to Olivia's house to show it to her, causing Olivia to blame it on Oggy again and comes home sad again, meaning Olivia wanted Oggy to cry.
Wonderful Qualities
- The beginning was okay, until the cockroaches come to steal Oggy's strawberry pie where it gets mean-spirited.
- Oggy is still likable.
- Unlike most of her appearances in the show, Piya is a likeable character (except the scene where Oggy plays music for Olivia) as she tries to help Oggy reunite with Olivia.
- At least Piya, Joey, Marky, and Dee Dee try to help Oggy and Olivia reunite placing flower petals from Oggy's house to Olivia's house so they can reunite.
- The scene where Oggy and Olivia have another date after finding the flower petals that Piya, Joey, Marky, and Dee Dee is heartwarming. Even Olivia tries to save Oggy from the firework that the cockroaches accidently lit.
- Good ending: Oggy and Olivia hug each other after they fall of the tree as they sit down at watch the fireworks.
