Congratulations Xilam, even though you did made an Oggy and the Cockroaches show better than Oggy Oggy, but it's not strong enough and is mediocre at best.

Oggy and the Cockroaches: Next Generation also known as Season 8 is a flash animated series based on the long-running Xilam flagship series Oggy and the Cockroaches. It streamed on Netflix on July 28, 2022.
Plot
Oggy takes care of a 7-year old indian elephant named Piya and learns to be a good parent. Meanwhile, Joey, Marky and Dee Dee befriend Piya and make mischief with her.
Cockroached! Qualities
- The idea on rebooting Oggy and the Cockroaches, while not a terrible idea, is pretty unnecessary as the original Oggy and the Cockroaches series already ended three years prior, thus making the release date bad-timing prior (reboots should be released 7 or 10 years and up like Teen Titans Go! being released 10 years after the original, despite being unnecessary). Oggy and the Cockroaches is already considered a classic that it didn't really need a reboot, just like Thomas and Friends. If Xilam wanted the series to continue then they should've resumed the continuity of the original series.
- The execution is slightly better than the idea despite being mediocre.
- Some characters are flawed.
- Piya can be a Mary-Sue sometimes. She sometimes cries and screams, which can be annoying.
- Kevin, Bob's orange dog nephew, is an unnecessary new character. He is portrayed like a spoiled brat and gets away with his karma because of his uncle, Bob. However, he does have good moments with Piya.
- Speaking of Bob, he is flanderized in the series as a bully to Oggy and Piya. Although he was unlikable in the original series.
- This show has a drastic identity crisis so its hard to either call it a reboot, a spin-off, or season 8.
- The new art style used by the show, while still decently handled, feels like a downgrade as many of the details given to the characters (ex. Dee Dee's prominent teeth, Marky's duck lips and Joey's exaggerated angry expressions) fade away.
- Speaking about the art style, the animation is not as fluid or as detailled as in the original show, and is sometime move in a rather stiff way.
- Olivia's yellow bow was removed, making her appearance in the series unfaithful to the original show.
- The concept of Oggy becoming a parent seems decent, but it is not executed well and also does not fit an entire series, maybe a series of episodes or even only one episode, and it is made even worse by the fact that Piya is a very annoying chatacter.
- Xilam made an odd decision to combine 6 segments into one episode when the other two Oggy shows combined 3 segments.
- Some of the sounds were reused or overused, such as the baby crying sound when Oggy was somehow little and did something bad.
- Oggy is a little bit unlikable in some episodes of Oggy and the Cockroaches: Next Generation. In said episodes, he comes across as a more of a stickler for the rules than usual who obsessively tries to control Piya's fun, particularly in "Safety First".
- Despite that, Piya can sometimes be a Mary Sue so it can be deserving for some.
- Many badly made episodes such as:
- "Piyama Party"
- "Timber!"
- "Elephant Nanny"
- "The Arrival"
- "The Secret Garden"
- "Mischief Mishaps"
- "Dog Day Afternoon" (not to be confused with "A Dog Day Afternoon" from the original series)
- "A Dreadful Date" (often considered to be the worst episode of the series)
- "A Restless Night"
- "Ice Cream!"
- The show lacks the charm of the original series, because not only it's not that faithful but also the writing comes off as weaker, less funny and the show is overall ruined by the concept of Oggy being a parent. Not only that but it also ruined and damaged the famous Oggy and the Cockroaches series (although not as much as Oggy Oggy but still) and caused the franchise to go downhill.
Next Generation Qualities
- Despite still being mediocre at best, it is still a massive improvement over Oggy Oggy, as this show is slightly more faithful than that spin off.
- Joey, Marky and Dee Dee return from their absents from Oggy Oggy.
- Kaycie Chase does a decent job voicing Piya and singing the new opening.
- Xilam didn't forget to bring back old characters too! Olivia, Bob and Jack.
- Just like how the original series, Some episodes even have surprisingly has a lot of good morals for kids and adults such as:
- "Nice Little Bear" teaches parents that they shouldn't say yes to your children all the time.
- "Ach-Who?" teaches kids to stay in bed when sick or else they might infect someone.
- "The Best Uncle" teaches adults that being the best parent is knowing what's best your child.
- "Timber!," while bad, teaches kids that you should try not to cut someone's tree down without permission.
- Some good or decent episodes such as:
- "Out of Order" (a good way to start the series)
- "A Day Out"
- "Mustache Man"
- "Aliens Welcome"
- "Piya Takes to the Moon"
- "Teeny-Tiny Oggy"
- "Mammoth Problem" (which ended the series on a high note)
- Oggy (most of the show), Joey, Marky, and Dee Dee are still likable and haven't been flanderized thankfully.
- There's still some funny moments now and then such as the scenes where Oggy tries to catch Joey, Marky, and Dee Dee.
- Catchy soundtrack, like the theme song itself.
- The new opening is also faithful to the original.
Reception
The Next Generation series of Oggy and the Cockroaches received really mixed reviews, with some people liking it and others disliking it. It scored a 5.8 out of 10 rating on IMDb, which proves its mixed reception.
