A remake of the 1937 film of the same name, it stars Cooper, Lady Gaga, Dave Chappelle, Andrew Dice Clay, and Sam Elliott and follows a hard-drinking musician who discovers and falls in love with a singer. It marks the fourth American adaptation of the original 1937 film, after the 1954 and 1976 musicals with the same names, respectively.

The film premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2018, and was theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United States on October 5, 2018. It emerged as a major critical and commercial success, grossing over $436 million worldwide and receiving widespread acclaim for Cooper, Gaga, and Elliott's performances and Cooper's direction, as well as the screenplay, cinematography, and soundtrack. It also received numerous nominations, including eight nominations for the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Cooper), Best Actress (Gaga), and Best Supporting Actor (Elliott); it won Best Original Song for "Shallow". It also earned five nominations at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, and won Best Original Song for "Shallow".

Its soundtrack is one of the world's best-selling albums of all time and received a BAFTA Award and four Grammy Awards out of seven nominations, including nominations for Song of the Year two years in a row; the lead single, "Shallow", is one of the world's best-selling singles of all time. For her acting and soundtrack contributions to A Star Is Born, Gaga became the first woman in history to win an Academy Award, Grammy Award, BAFTA Award, and Golden Globe Award in a single year.

Plot

Hard-drinking country music star Jackson "Jack" Maine (portrayed by Bradley Cooper) discovers-and falls in love with a struggling but talented singer named Ally (portrayed by Lady Gaga). As her career quickly takes off, Jackson realizes his best days may be behind him.

Why A Star Is Born Forever

  1. As a remake of an original film, this film is notable but portrayed interestingly and feels unique - it tells a beautiful story of a country musician who falls in love with a singer, and their relationship portrayed in the film is heartwarming and emotional.
  2. Everyone gives an incredible acting performance, even Gaga for her first film in acting; it also helps that their performances in scenes feel emotional and provide a great and happy vibe.
  3. It has incredible set designs and backgrounds, especially for the concert sets and props. The film's performances are also excellent due to the audible vocals and instruments as they play and perform; moreover, it makes you feel like you're watching a live performance and a movie simultaneously where this has movie aspects, but it also contains live performances, which is a very unique thing this film does: combine live performances with movie aspects and combine them into one.
  4. It's amazing to see Bradley Cooper sing and play guitar for the first time, and he does exceptionally well at it. Not only that, but he is also an incredible singer and guitarist; furthermore, his vocals are great and show that he can play guitar like a musician.
    • It also helps that this is his first film as a director, and he does it well.
  5. It has some of the most beautiful cinematography from Academy Award-winning cinematographer Matthew Libatique. This makes the scenes and live performances awesome and feel like one shot was needed. It also has gorgeous color formatting, which makes things helpful and unique to look at. This also makes the lighting color feel very nice, and it's camera momentum and lens feel excellent.
  6. The chemistry between Cooper and Gaga is fantastic, as the scenes that show them are over-the-top heartwarming; not only this, but when they sing "Shallow" together, it shows that even more.
  7. Beautiful soundtrack as it features incredible, memorable, and heartwarming songs, particularly "Always Remember Us This Way", "Maybe It's Time", "I'll Never Love Again", and most famously, the Grammy and Academy Award-winning song, "Shallow".
    • "Shallow" is a beautiful and heartwarming song. It features an acoustic guitar instrumental and incredible vocals from Cooper and Gaga.
    • Always Remember Us This Way" is such a heartwarming song. Gaga's vocals are extremely beautiful, and the song has a sad piano melody; it is so emotional that you can't help but feel that way.
  8. Terrific writing as it makes the story extremely meaningful, especially considering its plot, which is so heartwarming, even watching it.
  9. The extended cut is great because it adds twelve minutes of footage and extra songs. It also fixes the opening and does not make it feel rather rushed, even though it's still good.
  10. The film handles its subject matters very well and sends a good message, being about dealing with mental health issues and suicide. It also has a great message on many things, such as that music and art are essential, self-acceptance (accepting who you are), being true to yourself, seeking help, and how dangerous drug abuse and alcohol obviously are.

The Only Bad Quality

  1. As aforementioned, while the opening is good, it feels rushed; however, the extended cut fixes this.
