Contra, but you play as an alien

Alien Hominid is a run-and-gun video game developed and published by The Behemoth as a Flash game on August 7, 2002 on Newgrounds. It was then ported to the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube, Mobile, Xbox, Gizmondo, Xbox 360, Game Boy Advance and iOS in 2004 to 2011. The HD Remastered is released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in 2023.
Why It Rocks
- Great graphics for a Flash game, with stylish sprites that have fluid animations and detailed backgrounds. The console versions' graphics are even better, thanks to more options compared to the Flash version.
- Awesome soundtrack. Each theme knows how to fit the main theme very well, and it varies from a lot of themes, such as being creepy, mechanical, gladiator-styled, or zappery.
- Nice and adorable character designs. Special mention goes to Hominid himself, who has a cute smile and large black eyes that makes him look adorable. Despite this, however, he is still a literal alien badass who fights the FBI who took away his ship.
- A great sense of humour, such as in the intro where one of the FBI officers is sleeping, but after being alerted of Hominid's ship, his eyes become larger as he becomes shocked and is made aware of an alien in space. His eyes sum that moment completely and it makes you really wonder if he has much smaller eyes that are covered by his glasses.
- Fun run-and-gun gameplay. It is very fun to shoot everywhere to attempt to defend yourself and defeat as much enemies as you can before they could shoot you. It in general feels like Contra, except that the roles are seemingly swapped, as you play as an alien instead of a human.
- Alien Hominid is an example of a Flash game that can be ported into consoles, which started with the likes of the PS2 and the GameCube, followed by the likes of the Xbox and the GBA. As time would progress, some more franchises that had their first game made with Adobe Flash would hop onto consoles, such as Fancy Pants Adventures with The Fancy Pants Adventures in 2011.
- The multiplayer allows for much more fun as you can bring a friend to also have fun with the game and get rid of as much enemies as possible.
- A lot of funny minigames, like Missile Launcher. Moreover, there is also a tiny sandbox, where you can create your platform levels, a decade earlier before Super Mario Maker.
Bad Qualities
- You lose a life with one hit, making the game so very frustrating.
- Due to so much madness happening around you, it's difficult to see where bullets coming at you are fired from enemies, making it nearly impossible to defend yourself.
