Amazon Prime Video, or simply Prime Video, is an American subscription video-on-demand over-the-top streaming and rental service of Amazon offered both as a stand-alone service and as part of Amazon's Prime subscription. The service primarily distributes films and television series produced or co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios or licensed to Amazon, as Amazon Originals, with the service also hosting content from other providers, content add-ons, live sporting events, and video rental and purchasing services.
Launched on September 7, 2006, as Amazon Unbox in the United States, the service grew with an expanding library and added the Prime Video membership upon the development of the Prime subscription. It was then renamed as Amazon Instant Video on Demand.
Why It Rocks
- The video streaming service has a huge catalog of movies and TV shows, plus premium add-on channels.
- Prime Video has a ton of amazing original movies and shows, including:
- The Boys
- Invincible
- Hazbin Hotel
- Fallout
- Gortimer Gibbon's Life On Normal Street
- Just Add Magic
- Undone
- The Man in the High Castle (its most-watched program)
- Fleabag
- The Grand Tour
- Hanna
- Bosch
- The Kicks
- The Underground Railroad
- Red Oaks
- The Expanse
- The Legend of Vox Machina
- The Marvelous Ms. Maisel
- The Summer I Turned Pretty
- Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles
- Amazon Prime Video also allows you to buy or rent movies and TV shows, which is something that most streaming services don't have.
- They also help handle distributing shows from streaming services like Hulu outside the United States, since Hulu is not available anywhere outside the United States. Speaking of which, they also distribute programming from HBO Max in the territories where HBO Max is not available yet.
Bad Qualities
- They've made some stupid decisions. Not to mention, the infamous ban on anime titles considering they still have anime on Amazon Prime like the Pokémon series, and they remove many good movies and TV shows, and some of them remain only for a few months.
- They also have several bad or average movies and shows like:
- Cinderella
- Bliss
- Coming 2 America
- Hotel Transylvania: Transformania
- Crisis in six scenes
- Tampa Baes
- Wild and Free: Florianópolis
- Fairfax
- The Voyeurs
- Sausage Party: Foodtopia
- The Wheel of Time
- The Rings of Power
