The Legend of Vox Machina is an American adult animated fantasy action television series produced by Metapigeon, Titmouse, Inc., and Amazon Studios, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 28, 2022. The series is based on the first campaign of the Dungeons & Dragons web series Critical Role.

Plot

A band of adventurers gets drunk, has sex, and gives evil the finger. Oh, and they slay monsters one at a time.

Why It Will Fuck Shit Up

  1. Incredible animation. It isn't just a generic adult animated show that relies on cheap animation in favor of an all-star cast. This show relies on a crew known for voice acting other characters as well as an animation team who did Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Boys: Diabolical, and later Kiff.
  2. Incredible acting from the likes of Laura Bailey, Sam Riegel, Travis Willingham, and Matthew Mercer.
  3. Incredible intro.
  4. Every character is likable in their way shape or form. The Vox Machina crew always steals the spotlight. It's hard to find a favorite character from the crew.
  5. Incredible action scenes like the tavern brawl, the fight against the Briarwoods, and the final battle with Umbrasyl.
  6. It stays faithful to the source material. You do not need to watch Critical Role to have an understanding of this series.
  7. Nonstop hilarious moments like Vax looking into a mirror thinking he's turned into a vampire, Scanlan trying to make a sandwich, Scanlan and Vex giving each other middle fingers, Scanlan also giving the finger with his magic hand to Vedmire, and Scanlan and Vax going into Umbrasyl's anus. (YES, THAT HAPPENS IN THIS SHOW.)
  8. Speaking of Scanlan, he is by far the most hilarious, yet most competent member of Vox Machina, not only does he deliver the killing blow to Umbrasyl, but his magic hand and potions also make for some hilarious moments. He's the example of a comic relief character done right.
    • He's also an incredible singer, he switches from a simple pop song to an awesome rap introducing himself and his crew to the king.
    • If you expect him to sing a song about a threesome in one challenge; instead, he sings a love song between Kamaljiori and Osysa. And that love ballad is beautiful with incredible animation and heartfelt lyrics.
  9. Even the moments that are serious pack a serious punch like the Vox Machina crew coming across a burned-down village, Percy's death, and Vax's breakup with Keyleth, and Zerxus's backstory.
  10. "We're Vox Machina, we fuck shit up!"

Reception

The first six out of twelve episodes of the first season were given to critics to review ahead of the series premiere. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of 30 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 8.60/10. The website's consensus reads: "Fluidly animated and intelligently scripted, The Legend of Vox Machina is an addictive treat for fans of Dungeons & Dragons-style RPGs".
