Baby Hazel is a series of edutainment point and click games developed and published by Axis Entertainment Limited. The games are available on 2 official sites, topbabygames.com and babyhazelgames.com as well as iOS and Android.

Gameplay

By dragging items, the player has to try and make Baby Hazel happy through a series of levels. There are usually 4 levels, which mostly have a time limit. If Baby Hazel's happiness bar goes down, she will start crying. The game ends if the player has either beaten all 4 levels or if her happiness bar is all empty.

Why It's a Crybaby

  1. Almost every game in this series engages with the same style of gameplay with no variety at all. All it consists of is pointing at and clicking on things.
    • Sometimes, they can be quite buggy and glitchy too.
  2. The character designs are terrible, especially Baby Hazel herself.
  3. Hazel's family is extremely annoying. Even Hazel herself may be unlikable and bratty, although it could be understood as she's only a 3-year-old.
    • She also has an incredibly annoying and irritating cry that's like fingernails scraping on a chalkboard and it never stops until you calm her down to the point that it makes the laughing from Duck Hunt, and the cries of Baby Mario, George Pig from Peppa Pig, and Caillou from his namesake show look like saints in comparison. Sometimes, she will cry as part of the scene, and not if you ignore her.
  4. Some of the games engage in asset theft.
    • Baby Hazel Funtime steals music from The Sims 3.
    • Baby Hazel at the Beach steals music from Sonic Unleashed.
    • Baby Hazel's Birthday Party stole Darth Vader's breathing sound from Star Wars to use when she sleeps.
    • In Baby Hazel at Disneyland, they stole the song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper.
    • One of the games stole the song "Konoha Peace" from the Naruto Shippuden anime series.
      • Another game stole the song "Flying Dragon" from Naruto the Movie: Bonds.
    • The games overuse copyrighted characters like Mickey Mouse, SpongeBob SquarePants, Tom & Jerry, and Hello Kitty, similar to alldoctorgames.com. In fact, there's even the aforementioned Baby Hazel game where she goes to "Disneyland", which is in name only because it looks nothing like the real Disneyland.
    • However, later versions of those games, HTML5 and IOS versions for example, remove the bootleg renditions of copyrighted characters.
  5. Generic royalty-free music is used likely taken from websites and loops over and over.
  6. Despite the games being in English, there is a lot of bad grammar, which includes the like of “I want to drink a juice” and “What a fun” and even more.
    • This is because Axis Entertainment is based in India, but that doesn't mean they can't get a translator.
  7. In some games, Hazel and most of the other characters speak in a text to speech voice, which is weird and inconsistent for their ages. Other times, she speaks with baby babble that is subtitled.
  8. Certain characters in the franchise can be extremely cruel to Baby Hazel. For example, some of her friends will make fun of her without any explanation why.
  9. Hazel is often unsupervised in situations where she should be. (e.g. staying at home, letting her wander out in Africa, Disneyland, the mall, cooking, parks or the beach.)
    • She's also a huge Mary Sue that always gets what she wants no matter what.
  10. The apps are incredibly slow and full of ads. However, disconnecting from the internet or installing an ad blocker such as AdGuard will make the ads disappear. You can also pay to remove all ads, but not that most really would.
  11. There are many design inconsistencies and recycled props:
    • Hazel's room often changes between games with no explanation.
    • In Baby Hazel Doctor Play, she buys a "teddy" that is really a Musical Learning Cow toy from Fisher-Price.
    • One of her pets is called Budgie, but he barely looks like one.
    • The designs are also sometimes stolen clipart or bootleg-looking versions of copyrighted characters.
    • Hazel's friends are often copy-pasted from each other. Two girls have the same design as each other, but one is a brunette while the other is a redhead.
  12. Many of her friends disappear and reappear. This also happens with most of the background characters and even her pets.
  13. Possible racism and inaccuracies, such as when Hazel went to South Africa and encountered a tribe, despite the fact they had visited Cape Town, which is very modern. Not only that, but she also encounters a bear; in reality, there are no bears in South Africa.
    • The boy whom she met appears in later games with his name being "Tribal"... Yeah, that's not racist at all.
    • Akito might possibly be a trump card to this since he is a Japanese boy with no true stereotypical mannerisms. Same thing with Kenny.
  14. Baby Hazel can impossibly teleport things, which is weird. (e.g. where she teleports the ball to Akito.)
  15. In one game Baby Hazel meets two of the Seven Dwarves who take her to the Fairy Tale world. How do they do it? By turning her into a fetus and making her be born as Snow White. Note that she wanted to meet her, not be her.
  16. Most of the games are now just previewed at the site; to get the full experience, you have to download the app and buy the events, either with the fake coins or diamonds they supply, which you still have to buy with actual money, or actual currency.
  17. You will always have to play as Hazel in the games when there is a challenge. Not only that, but she always wins every party game or tournament, making it impossible for her to lose.
  18. There are many questionable things, including giving syringes for things like bellyaches, Hazel making a big mess while her mother is gone, her possession of various pets including 4 dogs, 3 cats, a rabbit, 2 birds, a fish, a hamster, 3 ducks and a reindeer, messing with the babysitter, etc.
  19. Every game in the series is incredibly easy to beat, even with the time limit. However, with the HTML5 versions of the games, there is no time limit, making the games unlosable.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. It might be fun for little kids.
  2. Lately, she hasn't been as bratty as she was. This is because she's now 3 as opposed to 2.
    • In fact, she has done nice things, such as buying her brother and family members presents, making parties for her friends, and mending wounds of animals.
  3. Sometimes, Hazel speaks with a regular kid's voice; she isn’t just limited to simple words, she actually speaks.
  4. It's very tame compared to other baby and toddler games. Most medical games don't have too much gore.
