Big Time Rush is a Nickelodeon American teen sitcom that ran from November 28, 2009, until July 25, 2013. It was created by Scott Fellows (who also created Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, Johnny Test, and 100 things to do before high school.
Plot
Four hockey players from Minnesota aspire to become a boyband. Kendall, Logan, Carlos, and James embark on a life-changing journey and face challenges along the way.
Why It Rocks Big Time
- The plot is very creative, because it focuses on a real-life band called Big Time Rush.
- The humor is very funny.
- The theme song is very nice, cool, and catchy.
- Very likable characters, even the main characters themselves.
- Multiple guest stars featured in certain episodes including:
- Nicole Scherzinger
- Jordin Sparks
- Fabio Lanzoni
- Rob Paulsen
- Snoop Dogg
- Russel Brand
- Lita Ford
- Cher Lloyd
- Alexa Vega
- Even Patchy the Pirate from SpongeBob SquarePants makes a special cameo appearance.
- The boys themselves are very cool and funny.
- It brings back the charm of previous Nick sitcoms, such as iCarly and Drake & Josh.
- Because it was created by Scott Fellows, unlike most modern Nick sitcoms, it has no laugh track. It lets the audience laugh at the jokes themselves.
- The songs that the boys sing are decent, especially the theme song.
- It was a huge improvement over Johnny Test's later seasons and also brought Scott Fellows back to his rightful fame as well.
- Great humor and plots.
- George Hawk is a very intimidating main antagonist.
- The film they made was very decent and funny.
- It spawned many specials, such as Big Time Christmas and Big Time Beach Party, with most of them being very successful.
- The series finale "Big Time Dreams" was a very decent and heartwarming way to end the show.
- The band itself in real life produced loads of nice songs, even after breaking up shortly after the show ended and reuniting in 2021 with new songs.
Bad Qualities
- Some of the jokes and humor are a bit too mature for its target audience.
- The titles for the episodes are a bit uncreative as they all have "Big Time" in them.
- Kelly, Carlos, James, and Griffin can be unlikable sometimes.
- Some bad episodes like "Big Time School of Roque" and "Big Time Mansion".
- The cartoonish sound effects can get annoying after a while.
Reception
Big Time Rush has a 6.4/10 on IMDb[1]
Trivia
- The show regularly got above 2 million viewers during its run, but during its fourth and final season in 2013, it was given little promotion. As a result, most episodes aired with low ratings, with the May 16th episode barely gaining above 1 million viewers.
