|
"Bitter Chocolate" is the first episode of season 1 of Oggy and the Cockroaches, and was remade as the fifteenth episode for season 6 under the title "Chocolate Wars."
Plot
Oggy gets a box of chocolates for his birthday. The jealous cockroaches do everything they can to steal them and gobble them down... In a militaristic madness to get the box back, Jack only manages to destroy Oggy’s house...
Why It Deserves a Chocolate
- It starts the series amazingly well as it has an original plot like most other episodes.
- The chocolate box is designed really amazingly in both versions as it has little bits of chocolate that would make a delicious feel inside your mouth.
- It introduces the characters really well as Oggy, Jack, and even the cockroaches are likable and are really funny in the episode.
- It makes great references to the theme song, such as when Oggy was sliding down the stairs when chasing the cockroaches for the chocolate and when the cockroaches dive down the toilet to get Oggy's chocolate.
- It is also a great debut for Jack as he is really caring for Oggy as he bandages his bump and tries to help Oggy get his chocolate back from the cockroaches with his bug spray.
- Lots of funny moments, such as when Oggy and Jack slip on a banana peel, causing them to fall off the stairs and causes another reference to the theme song.
- It even teaches a great moral about keeping your stuff safe from strangers/bullies.
The Only Bad Quality
- The ending part where Oggy eats the chocolate piece (despite being funny) can be bad karma to some.
Trivia
- The original episode marked the first appearance of Jack in the series.
- In the remake, the chocolate box is much different.
- This is the only episode where the cockroaches' laughs are different, being more lower-pitched.
- Later runs of the original episode would mix in the more recognizable laughs alongside the episode-specific laughs at two instances.
- It is weird to see how the cockroaches knew that Oggy had been exploded, due to the fact he had closed the fridge door.
- Although this is the first episode of season one, the pilot may have aired before this episode. All pilots air before the first episode of season one.
- As mentioned WIDaC #4, the scene where Marky and Dee Dee swim to the toilet is the same scene on the opening.
- The aerosol spray can gag was also used in the opening.
- The scene where Marky and Dee Dee swim to the toilet was reanimated three times.
- The original version of this episode was a bit different, the cockroaches have a different voice and laugh.
- There was a picture of Space Goofs when Jack comes out on the door and bring his rocket launcher in the original.
