"Booby Trapped" is the twelfth episode in Season 10 of The Fairly OddParents, and the second 22-minute long special in the season as well as the two hundred sixty-ninth overall. This is also the last episode of the series to premiere on the main Nickelodeon channel, as well as in the year of 2016. Episodes that did not air on the main Nickelodeon channel yet at the time eventually started airing on Nicktoons in 2017.

Plot

Cosmo and Wanda spend the night at Chloe's disguised as booby birds. When Chloe's parents decide to return the boobies to the wild, Timmy and Chloe have to go and save them.

Why It's A Booby Trap

  1. This episode introduces the viewer to Chloe's parents, Clark and Connie, who are just as unlikable and annoying as their own daughter is. Their characterization is also literally nothing more than closely matching the cliché "Idiot parent" trope, the same trope that's been done numerous times throughout the series on Timmy's parents themselves.
    • They also had lame Australian stereotypes.
    • This is also very lazy on the writers' part, considering their introduction could have easily been done in this season's premiere episode, "The Big Fairy Share Scare".
  2. Clark and Connie think Cosmo and Wanda, disguised as booby birds, were rescued by Chloe and need to brought back to the wild to be free. This is basically what started the events of this episode. Timmy and Chloe could have easily used their fairies' wands to wish them back, preventing the entire events of the episode.
  3. Regarding that, the writers, yet again, render Cosmo and Wanda completely useless. In this episode's case, it's due to them leaving their wands behind after being napped by Chloe's parents.
  4. The title card is lazy.
  5. Annoying and predictable running gags like usual, such as Clark and Connie complimenting each other, Chloe freaking out whenever she realizes she made a bad choice, Cosmo getting mad at his reflection due to thinking it's "Cosmo 2", and everyone mistaking monsters for inanimate objects.
    • Speaking of monsters, few of them have nonsensical design (such as vending machine monster), even for show standard.
  6. Crocker and his mother are pointlessly shoehorned in out of nowhere as soon as Cosmo and Wanda land in the booby trap resort spa that Crocker himself set up.
  7. Cosmo and Wanda take no notice in what they got themselves into until it was convenient on the writers' part.
  8. Unneccessary and unneeded close-up shots of gross-out humor, such as the scenes with Timmy's ear bite wound and Crocker's back wound respectively, which was shown twice.
  9. Like a majority of modern Fairly OddParents episodes, this one in particular focuses too much on unfunny running gag jokes that do nothing but make the characters all look like idiots, combined with a very lack of structure and conflict.
  10. Unforetualy, this episode ended the runs of The Fairly OddParents episodes as well as the episodes of the series airing in 2016 on a bad note, and may even seen as a whimper note for some. Additionally, it's not helping by the fact that "Booby Trapped" was the last episode to air on Nickelodeon and the year 2016.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The booby birds are well-designed.
  2. Timmy rightfully calls Connie and Clark out for taking Cosmo and Wanda without asking Chloe first.
  3. The running gag of Cosmo thinking his reflection is "Cosmo 2", while unfunny, can be funny to some people.
    • The scene where Timmy and Chloe switch places when using the wand is the only funny scene in the episode.
  4. The trap Crocker made to capture Cosmo and Wanda is creative.
  5. Timmy is surprisingly likable.
  6. Unlike most episodes in seasons 9 and seasons 10 of The Fairly OddParents, Mr. Turner is completely absent, and it's a nice touch because of how overused he became in the series by 2016.
  7. The title card, even if it is lazy for a lot of folks, has some interesting details, such as Cosmo's feathers (green) and Wanda's feathers (pink).
    • Additionally, the white background is a neat addition to the title card, even if it is lazy, especially for that of the standards of 2016.
  8. At least Mr. Turner doesn't appear in the episode, which is something, because he had been way too overused in the series by the episode, and so it can be great to give a break from Mr. Turner and also it's the last-double length episode not to have him, especially considering the last and final-double length episode would have him in it.
  9. The first few minutes prior to Chloe's parents introduction were okay.

Trivia

  • This is the third time Cosmo and Wanda do not appear out of disguise during an episode. The first was No Substitute For Crazy! and second was Old Man and the C-.
  • Chloe's full name is revealed to be Chloe Mother Teresa Neil Armstrong Carmichael.
    • Although later episodes seem to not be consistent with this, some showing her with an entirely different middle name.
  • This episode had the highest viewership of any Season 10 episode upon first airing, with roughly 1.6 million viewers.
