Brain Food is 43rd episode of the 1st season of Teen Titans Go!.

Synopsis

Tired of being the least intelligent of the Titans, Beast Boy attempts to make himself "smarterer". But when his methods prove useless, he resorts to Raven’s Spellbook- not to make himself smarter, but to make the other Titans dumber, so as to come to his level of thought.

Why It Has No Brains

  1. The entire plot is very forced because Beast Boy is suddenly shown to have the IQ of Patrick Star from the dark era of SpongeBob SquarePants. Sure, he’s not the brightest bulb in the box but previous episodes showed him to have at least some shred of intelligence.
  2. Beast Boy is also treated poorly in this episode because due to his forced stupidity; at the beginning of the episode, he had to bathe Silkie and all the other Titans sneezed in his face about his stupidity.
  3. Beast Boy saying “smarterer” is stupid and sounds like something the babies would say on Rugrats.
  4. Disappointed Raven’s spell didn’t work (it did, just not in a way he expected, it only made Silkie a genius), he casts a spell to make the Titans “dumber”.
  5. The “dumber” Titans are stupider than Bishop in Marvel’s Messiah Wars storyline. The Titans being abysmally stupid is not funny, it’s just very annoying.
  6. The running gag of Beast Boy shoving food up his ears and calling it “brain food” (which the episode is named after) is not funny and most of the foods are not brain foods (expect for the fish).
  7. Beast Boy tells the now stupified Titans to “kill the ocean” to stop the asteroid, it contains animal abuse and it’s disturbing.
  8. Bad ending: Beast Boy casted a spell to make himself dumber than the other Titans (that he kept the same).

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Genius Silkie was the true hero of the episode and this side of Silkie went on to be a recurring character in the series, he’s done just as great in his several appearances.
  2. This episode spawned two memes: “Guys look, a birdie!” and the Titans abusing marine life, the latter is done by YouTubers and Tik Tok users replacing the marine life with different things (like YouTube subscribe buttons and logos of terrible TV shows and movies). The memes are actually funnier than the actual show.
  3. Robin having his leg stuck in a bucket is genuinely funny.
  4. “Guys look, a birdie!”

Trivia
