But Why? is the thirtieth episode of the first season of Lu & the Bally Bunch and the thirtieth episode overall.
Plot
Declan learns there are some things people just don't know the answer to -- and that's okay.
"Poo" Qualities That Don't Have A Reason Why (No Pun Intended)
- Declan was an annoying, whiny butt-monkey in this episode because he just acted upset over the bug/dog hybrid, Dots played with everyone else except for him.
- While the idea of making animal/bug hybrid creatures sound pretty good, it comes off as too weird and nonsensical to see in a show that's suppose to be a slice of life kind.
- Even though Dots looks adorable, she looks like the titular puppy from Blue's Clues (not helping the fact is that they're both, you know....blue?), but in the body shape of Jake the Dog. And like almost all the other characters, she looks less like a bug, and more like a real dog with wings.
- At the scene where Dots licks Biba, the Bugs' laughing can be heard, but for some reason, they're not even seen laughing.
- Declan acted nosy around the others as he keeps asking them why Dots won't play with him to the point of getting the impression that she doesn't like him.
- When the bugs ask what's wrong with Dots after playing with them, Barnaby says this inappropriate line before he and Biba giggled:
- "Maybe she needs a poo." How, just how on earth was Nicky Phelan able to greenlight this episode and put it on the air without the executives telling him to change it?! What's worse is that the other bugs and Shella don't even yell "Ew!" at Barnaby and call him out in disgust.
- Aside from Declan's problems and that dirty joke, the majority of the episode comes off as boring as it's just Lu, the rest of her friends and Shella playing with Dots. The fact that it lasts for seven minutes doesn't help either.
Good Qualities That Have A Reason Why
- Everyone (despite what Barnaby said on PQTDHARW #5 and Biba laughing with him) except for Declan are likable, even Lu and Shella since this is one of the few episodes where Lu doesn't act like an overreacting crybaby as usual and Shella doesn't act like a Mary Sue like she always is and has a better reason to comfort Declan.
- Even though Declan was upset about Dots not playing with him, at least he didn't cry wildly about it.
- Gus didn't want to play with Dots, but unlike Declan, he had a reason he didn't want to because he just didn't feel like it. This also makes it relatable to viewers who aren't even a dog person.
- The scene where Dots licks Biba is really adorable to watch.
- Good Moral: Sometimes, people have an answer to everything, but sometimes, they just don't and want it that way.
- Despite what the last bad pointer says, Denise Cassar and Cat Little's episode is at least a little tolerable compared to a certain couple of ones they made.
