"Castle Life" (French: "La Vie de Château") is the seventh episode from season two of Zig & Sharko and the eighty-fifth episode overall. It was written by Hugo Gittard and storyboarded by Julien Thompson.
Plot
In this episode, Zig and Bernie sneak inside Marina's sandcastle and lock Sharko outside, but the mermaid's hospitality distracts Zig from his main goal.
Bad Qualities
- It is a torture episode for almost everyone else, the exception being Marina.
- Zig plan wasn't that bad but due to the fact that Marina want Zig to take care of things in it, he cannot even try to eat her without getting bothered and his plan goes wrong.
- Bernie also count because he had to see if Sharko doesn't try to destroy the castle door, and he is also tortured by Marina because he also had to do chores.
- Sharko, for him it's différent because he cannot access the castle, and try to enter in it with various ways but the problem is that it fail and the ways he does is also way too hardcore, see below for more details.
- In addition, in one moment where Sharko chase Zig, it look like Marina would also suffer from torture but no, she's just a mary sue in this episode, and the next scene will make her unlikable, once again, see below for more details.
- Both Sharko and Marina are unlikable in this episode, and they are at their absolute worst here (especially Marina).
- Sharko isn't really unlikable in the first half but not only his ways to trying to enter in the castle are way too extreme but when he chase Zig, he destroy the entire castle with his weapon, and to make things worse, it isn't him that will suffer from consequences but rather Zig and Bernie, which sid absolutely nothing to deserve this.
- Marina is at her worst here, because she keep make Zig and Bernie doing chores and when the former did turn, she hit Zig hand to continue doing chores, which is just mean-spirited, and not to mention that because of her, Zig did eat too much and was not feeling well, which did make him unable to move.
- The reason for this though is because Zig was forcing himself to eat those spaghettis because he didn't wanted to make her sad since when he didn't wanted to eat, Marina looked sad, and the latter did made way too much of them for Zig, and it show that in this episode, she is completely careless.
- Zig, while a likable character, is a huge butt-monkey here and it is almost unwatchable at times when we see that he is doing chores because he's forced.
- The way Sharko did chase Zig was just mean-spirited and goes way too far because instead of being funny, it feel more like Sharko wanted to kill Zig due to the weapon he did used.
- Misleading title: While in one part it is castle life, it isn't that much because it is just Zig and Bernie doing chores for Marina instead of how it feel like to live in a castle, and it is even less when you consider that Sharko mostly try to destroy the castle door, which feel more like it is based on the 1770s rather than castle life.
- The scene where Marina did mess up Zig costume and that he yell at her was extremely hard to watch and is definitely one of the worst moment of the entire episode.
- Due to BQ1.1, It is one of Zig worst plan in the series, which is shocking because season 2 is know for the hilarous plans of Zig and his clever ways to do it, to the point that in one episode he did manage to eat Marina, though it was ruined by the fact that Sharko did went back in time to stop him.
- Due to the poor nature of the episode, it feel offensive for those who live in a castle who might find the episode offensive because of the terrible portraying of a castle life, it was also executed in a better way in other Zig & Sharko episodes as you can see in many season 2 episodes.
- The humors here is shockingly terrible and are some of the worst you might find in a Zig & Sharko, the reason why it is bad is mostly because instead of being funny, it feel more mean-spirited, such as the moments where Zig had to do chores but cannot leave because of Marina.
- The ending is absolutely horrible, since not only does the castle was destroyed but instead of Sharko that suffer from karma, it is Zig and Bernie which did nothing to the castle and did just try to escape from Sharko, and Marina didn't even try to know who did it and instead just asked both of them to remake the castle, and for Sharko, he just had fun with Marina when Zig and Bernie does make the castle, which feel insulting because once again, they did nothing wrong.
Good Qualities
- Zig and Bernie are likable, and Sharko was tolerable until that he destroy the castle when Zig try to escape.
- Good animation and musics as usual.
- It had a nice concept but was poorly executed due to how much of a torture episode it was toward Zig and Bernie.
- Some of the moments are funny, most notably when Sharko did try to find a way to enter in the castle, despite being way too extreme.
Trivia
- Sharko hiding in a pony toy to infiltrate the castle is a reference to the Trojan Horse story.
