"Mermaid Fritter" (French: "Beignet de Sirene") is the eighth episode from season two of Zig & Sharko and the eighty-third episode overall. It was written by Renaud Gagnon and storyboarded by Yannick Hervieu.
Plot
In this episode, Zig and Bernie come back from the hunt again, empty-handed. It's too much time for Bernie, who aspires to a more peaceful life. He sets up a ploy so that Zig thinks he has eaten the mermaid...
Why It Rocks
- This is one of the few torture episode that is done right, as it actually balance with sad and funny moments.
- This episode show that Sharko somewhat care for Zig, as seen in this episode since when Zig wasn't there to try to eat the real Marina (due to thinking that the cake he eaten was Marina herself), he did go to his house and when Zig was depressed, he tried to cheer him up, which is the main reason of why this episode is that good.
- The beginning was really funny, because as usual, Zig try to eat Marina and get Bernie with his plans, which always fail, and Bernie had enough of that, so he created a cake that ressemble Marina.
- The cake that Bernie did made in the volcano look delicious, and very well done as well in term of art, no wonder Zig though that it was the real Marina.
- Likable characters as always, especially Sharko, who take care of Zig because of him being depressed.
- The running gag of where Zig is scared of Marina can appear as funny for some peoples, howewer there is an issue with it (see BQ#1).
- The scene where Zig tried to kiss Marina after learning that he feel fine is really funny, complete with Sharko anger, which the latter kick him off because of this.
- A good ending where Zig and Bernie along with someone else create a ship toy instead of trying to eat Marina, which is also wholesome.
The Only Bad Quality
- The running gag of where Zig is scared of Marina due to thinking that she is a ghost due to him thinking that he actually eaten her can be seen as repetitive by some peoples, and might be even mean-spirited for some peoples.
Trivia
- When Zig and Bernie are tossed away on their paper boat after getting thrashed, their pose here is a reference to the film Titanic.
