"Connie's Celica" is the 10th episode of the 18th season of Family Guy. It was aired on January 5, 2020.
Plot
When Lois becomes the new music teacher at James Woods High School, Connie D'Amico starts bullying her.
Why It Sucks
- The episode is pretty much just a 22 minute Lois torture episode and it's not fun to watch because she did nothing wrong.
- Misleading Title: The episode has nothing to do about Connie's Celica aside from the one liner from Tom Tucker where Connie "died" in a Celica.
- The episode claims to be about Lois dealing with Connie's shenanigans as a music teacher, but this plot is quickly assassinated for a Hitchcock-style plot.
- This also isn't anything new, as the same happened with "Long John Peter".
- Connie gets expelled after she sniped Lois with a tomato, but her assault isn't even the reason why she gets punished. She had gotten a third strike at the school which only exists to scrap the initial plot as mentioned above.
- In reality, expelling a student over three offenses is completely illogical, even in real life.
- Connie's expulsion was reasonable, but it should have been at the very end of the episode.
- In reality, expelling a student over three offenses is completely illogical, even in real life.
- The music related is wasted potential in this episode as there is only one scene where Lois narrating her morning while playing the piano. The music room really only appears for a few scenes.
- There is some filler in this episode, some examples include:
- Peter asking Joe what is he supposed to do without Lois.
- Peter doing a marriage timeout and freezes, then Chris and Meg insults him for no reason.
- Peter and Brian doing a podcast that goes on for a minute.
- This isn't helping that this scene was explained by Peter before it happened.
- A painfully long scene of Connie buying paper towels.
- Lois talking about if she pulled a Mary Kay Letourneau.
- Principal Shepherd is unlikable here for barely caring about Lois when she dealing with Connie's shenanigans.
- It's never explained whether Lois is still employed at the high school.
- Plot Hole: Furthermore, when Lois was set free from jail, she's out of nowhere buffed.
- This episode has too many plot changes. First it starts with Lois being a music teacher (which is what the episode should've stuck with), then Connie cyberbullies her after Lois inadvertently gets her expelled, then Lois was arrested for Connie's murder for no reason, and then out of nowhere, Peter and Brian try to prove her innocence but fail, not to mention they didn't do anything to prove that Lois is innocent.
- This episode has the show break its promise of phasing out the gay jokes again as it makes lesbian jokes centered around Lois after one of Connie’s revenge pranks causes people to mistake Lois for a lesbian and forces Lois to go on a date with an actual lesbian.
- Although Connie’s frame up plan was exposed and Lois was able to go free in the end, the show never reveals whether or not Connie ever gets punished for all the torment she put Lois through.
Redeeming Qualities
- It brought back Lois' music talents aside from the theme song for the first time in quite a while.
- Lois is cute when she plays the piano, as she usually is.
- The Peppa Pig cutaway gag was funny.
- Connie’s expulsion is somewhat cathartic due to her horrible behavior in the school in prior episodes, especially towards Meg.
- Lois is still a likable character, and she isn’t flanderized like she usually is.
- Peter, Brian, and Stewie are tolerable characters
Reception
Although "Connie's Celica" has a 6.5/10 rating on IMDb, it was poorly-recieved by some viewers due to filler and quickly scrapping the lead-in plot.
