Daylight Savings is the 14th episode of Season 2, and the 38th episode overall of The Powerpuff Girls.

Plot

When the Girls' school work suffers from their late-night crime-fighting, Ms. Keane convinces the Professor that they need a 7:30 nightly curfew, which is good news for the villains of Townsville until the Professor watches the Clock channel, where he realizes that the first night of the curfew is in Daylight Saving Time.

Qualities That Are Late and Deserves a PTC

1. The Powerpuff Girls have not been getting enough sleep because of their late-night crime-fighting, so Ms. Keane suggests a curfew for them to Professor Utonium, which leads to the Professor making sure the girls stay asleep.
2. Both the Professor and Mrs. Keane are oblivious in this episode:
   • Miss Keane also doesn’t seem to understand that school is still a big responsibility, which makes no sense since the girls are superheroes, and saving cities from dangerous criminals is an even bigger responsibility. Shouldn’t she have just given them their schoolwork or a longer task to do at home? In fact, giving schoolwork or an assignment at home would have been a better way to execute the girls' tardiness rather than giving a curfew.
   • Professor Utonium does everything he could to make sure the girls stay in bed, even if it means that the city is still in danger. Even worse, he tried to get the city in danger out of his head, and then he realized that one of the channels was saying it’s Daylight Saving Time, and he forgot to set the clocks backwards.
3. The Girls falling asleep in class is not a good sign, especially since you can’t ever fall asleep in class.
   • To make things worse, before the girls go to school, it is revealed to by 5am in the morning, so they could have go to their home to sleep for a bit then prepare for school.
     • Plot Hole: The girls somehow survive without eating breakfast, even though meals are important before going to school or routine.
4. The parent-teacher conference is mostly boring, especially during the silence.
5. Speaking of which, the city being in danger is horrible to see, as the villains roam free and cause mayhem and destruction.
6. The episode treats the crime-fighting the Powerpuff Girls do like a fun nighttime hobby when in fact it is a serious obligation. Because of this, Professor Utonium and Miss Keane make it seem that schoolwork is more important than that of the safety and well-being of Townsville, which is very out of character for both of them.
7. The plot of this episode could have been avoided had Professor Utonium established a routine chart that could help the Girls manage their school work and crime-fighting obligations easily so they could know when to study and sleep instead of having a mandatory curfew suddenly slapped on them.
   • In addition, the professor could have included a 24/7 routine to avoid getting a curfew so that they could fight crime at any time.

Qualities That Are On Time

1. The episode started off good, with the girls fighting crime as always, until we got to the school part where the girls fell asleep.
2. The Powerpuff Girls are the only likable characters in this episode.
3. Miss Keane at least was trying to get the girls to have better sleep, so we can understand why she would want the girls to have a curfew.
4. There are some funny moments in the episode, such as the Professor’s overreaction to and during the parent-teacher conference, as well as when he told the girls it wasn’t a curfew yet and they could still fight crime.
   • A few lines are hilarious to watch:
     • The Powerpuff Girls' line after Mrs. Keane uses a big dictionary to drop the table
       • Bubbles: George Washington!
       • Blossom: Pi R-Squared!
       • Buttercup: Borscht!
     • Professor's lines: PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE! NOOOO!, Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! and Hop aboard the Dreamland Express!
5. At least the episode had a good ending, with the Professor letting the girls fight crime again, and Townsville is saved once again.
6. Good Moral: No education is more important than the safety and well-being of a city.

Trivia

• It, and A Very Special Blossom, are the final episodes to air during the 1990s.
• HIM, Sedusa and the Rowdyruff Boys do not appear in the parade of villains.
