Dora the Explorer is an American interactive educational animated TV series created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes, and Eric Weiner. Dora the Explorer became a regular series in 2000. The show is carried on the Nickelodeon cable television network, including the associated Nick Jr. channel. After the original broadcast of the series finale in the United States on August 9, 2019, reruns continued to air through 2024.

While the first 2 seasons of Dora the Explorer were more well-received by critics and viewers and Seasons 3-5 received a mixed-to-positive reception, the remaining 3 seasons were met with a mixed reception from critics, while audiences hated these seasons.

Bad Qualities That Refuse To Explore

  1. The main problem with these seasons is that they remove most of the charm that made the first two seasons, and to a lesser extent, Seasons 3-5 good.
    • Some of the characters have been flanderized to have little to no personalities within them, namely Dora.
    • The songs started to become very repetitive, old, and annoying, such as the "We Did It", "Travel", "Backpack" and "Map" songs.
    • The fact the characters talk more slowly than the first four seasons wouldn't educate the kids anymore like they used to, but rather annoy them now and the creators of the show even claimed that they did that so "kids can understand them better", which ended up being a terrible idea overall since we could understand them just fine without any annoyance in the first 5 seasons.
      • When Dora asks a question, the tone of her voice is even more annoying than the first four seasons, where it was not too annoying and more reasonable.
  2. Although Dora's constant fourth-wall breaking was always annoying, in these seasons, it is even more so than the previous seasons by older kids and adults since she often stays silent for several seconds to leave time to the kid viewer to reply.
  3. The animation is a noticeable downgrade over the previous seasons, as it looks more stiff and dull despite still being traditionally animated.
    • Not to mention, the CGI animation for Map and Backpack in the last two seasons looks mediocre at best, even for 2010s standards.
  4. Star Catching, which was a likable addition to the show, was removed.
  5. "Let's Go to Music School" wasn't a good way to end the show, as it left the series on a cliffhanger.
    • Also, the show ended on April 24, 2015 with this episode in Canada and the United Kingdom, but it did not air in the United States until August 9, 2019, known as the release day of Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
  6. The interactive computer game design was killed off completely in Season 8 in favor of a tablet design, with the mouse and "click-beep" sound effect also being removed.

Good Qualities That Deserve To Explore

  1. The interactive computer game concept was pretty neat, as well as with the Explorer stars.
  2. The voice acting is still passable.
  3. The characters got some redemption in Dora and the Lost City of Gold in 2019.
  4. The animation did improve a little in the seventh and eighth seasons, aside from the CGI for Map and Backpack, but that is not by saying much.
