Doraemon: Nobita's Space Heroes (Doraemon: Nobita no Uchuu Eiyuuki) is a video game for the Nintendo 3DS. It is based on the movie of the same name. It is an action game developed by FuRyu.
Bad Qualities
- To start with, the gameplay is very repetitive, and the objectives of each level are pretty boring, as you will mostly kill all the enemies you had to with Doraemon, Nobita had to escort someone to the end goal, Shizuka had to stop the fire, Suneo had to repair some cars or other electronics things, and Gian had to place, for example, cars in their right places, and it's like that for almost all of the game.
- Some of the levels with two characters are actually better to play as only one character, the most notable example being a level with Suneo and Nobita, where you should only play as Suneo since he is the only character required to finish it.
- Likewhise, there are even some levels in which you can play as almost all of the characters except one in particular, but you will need only one specific character to finish the level, and for these levels, the required character is mostly Suneo, not to mention that some of the levels with most of the characters being present are also empty and just have one thing to fix and the level will be finished.
- The camera is pretty poor as it is very choppy at times and can make you get hit by an enemy, although due to how easy this game is, it isn't that big of a deal since you can literally complete the game without even dying once (see BQ#5 for more information about the easy difficulty).
- The cutscenes are pretty bad, and while they're nowhere near as bad as they're in Nobita to Fukkatsu no Hoshi, they still are incredibly boring, and worst of all, you can't skip them. This is a major problem since the cutscenes last horribly long; the first cutscene in the game lasts more than 10 minutes! Even Nobita to Fukkatsu no Hoshi allows you to skip cutscenes, and that game was much worse than this one.
- Not to mention that much like in the previous 3DS Doraemon games, the cutscenes are only static images that are very boring to look at and feel like they are here just to pad the story of the game, they could trying to use the movie clips but no, howewer this is likely because the 3DS games are made on a rather low budget.
- The game is way too easy, as there are not a lot of enemies to kill, and even if there are some enemies, they are so weak that they cannot even hit you if you run, and even if you don't try to kill them, dying is also horribly hard to do except if you really want to die. Even by the standards of the Doraemon games, this game takes the easy difficulty way too far, although that would make the game easy to play for children who had little to no video game experience.
- The draw distance is terrible and can make some of the levels really hard to know where your objectives are in the level; this is especially true with the Shizuka levels, where the fires are hard to see, though fortunately there is a map where it's indicated where they are.
- For some weird reasons, some of the cutscenes don't have full voices acting, despite some of them having the dialogue fully voiced, and there's even some that aren't even voiced at all.
- Not to mention that outside of the cutscenes, there are barely any voices acting, especially in the in-game gameplay, which only had noise for the characters when they either jumped or attacked, and of course, the jump and attack noises would become very annoying over time, although despite the flaws of the voices acting, the voice acting is still amazing (see GQ #4).
- In a similar manner to Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2, most of the level design comes from decent to just bad, as some of the levels are so poorly designed that you will lose easily in the biggest levels, especially with the Nobita levels.
- Some of the levels, just like the aforementioned game, are either too short or too long, with some lasting only 2 minutes and others lasting more than 8 minutes.
- Some of the animation is horribly long, such as when you use the take copter, in which it takes 10 seconds just to use it and continue running in a level, not to mention that it's making the levels even longer when you play as Doraemon and he has to use the take copter to go up and find the things he has to do to finish the level. Yes, it's this long and tedious.
- This is also a bit of a problem with the Suneo levels since it takes 5 or 7 seconds to repair something, which would once again make the levels much longer if there were many of them to repair, and no, this is not a joke.
- Despite being based on the action-packed movie that is Space Heroes, this game doesn't even have any boss fights, as the villains are defeated in the cutscenes, and that it, even the Famicom game of 1986 had boss fights, despite being lauchable and terrible, this is unnaceptable considering that it'd have made the game even closer to the movie than it already is, and that would also make the game less repetitive.
- There is actually a boss near the end of the game but it is the only boss of the game and due to how bad it is, it's barely qualifying as a boss as you can just spam the punch and beat the boss easily, you also play as Gian for that fight by the way.
- Not to mention that even the main villan of the movie is beaten in a cutscene and the last level is litteraly a ennemies rush where you must kill all of them, this also a huge missed oportunity of making an epic and awesome final boss but no he is defeated in a cutscene and that it, how unfortunate.
- The game is way too short, as it's last 3 to 4 hours for a full playthrough, and of course there aren't even any replay values. This is also one of the shortest Doraemon games on the 3DS and also possibly the easiest.
- Nobita playstyle is the worst of the entire game and even one of the worst playstyles he ever got in a Doraemon video game, as he doesn't even have any attacks to speak of, his levels dedicated to him are poorly designed and are just escort missions for the most part, and he just isn't as fun or decent as the other characters. Yeah, Nobita is mostly the weakest in the series, but that doesn't mean that they should give him this kind of awful playstyle; at least in the SNES games, he was more fun to play as, although when he can shoot his playstyle is fine but still.
- Some of the levels feel too much like fillers, especially the Nobita levels, as there are a lot of pointless levels in the game that aren't particularly fun or feel like a proper level. There are also some of them that are horribly short, which makes these levels feel even more like fillers. This was probably done to help make the game longer than it could have been, even though the game is still too short.
Good Qualities
- The soundtrack is amazing, as there are a lot of bangers to listen to, and there is also some of the best music that you will hear from a Doraemon game, despite the fact that some of the music is generic and some of it is very repetitive, but it is still catchy. The best example would be the level select screen music or some of the cutscene music that is very catchy.
- Decent graphics, although some of the character models are uncanny, especially Doraemon himself, but despite that, the graphics don't really lack details and are pleasant to the eyes.
- The controls are pretty good, as they are tight and responsive and will not really make you get cheap deaths (it's hard to do in this game, to be honest), and they are functional at best.
- It's at least not as bad as other 3DS Doraemon games such as Doraemon: Nobita to Himitsu Dougu Hakubutsukan, which was incredibly confusing to play and was overall not that great of a game.
- The game, despite its flaws, can actually be very fun to play, especially when you play it for the first time in your life and you haven't done all of the levels this game has to offer, which means that the game is not bad but rather flawed.
- Also despite its flaws, the game can actually be enjoyable, especially for young children or Doraemon fans.
- The voice acting, as usual with the Doraemon games, is excellent, as every voice actor reprises their roles and they sound just like they do in the movie and the anime.
- The game is still very faithful to the movie, despite the fact that the Villains don't have any boss fights.
- Most of the mini games are really fun to play, such as the one where you shot the target with Shizuka or when you had to connect the cables with Suneo. The former is also one of the parts that is the most fun of this game.
- At least it's still a game that can be understood easily by children who have little to no video game experience.
Reception
The game received mixed reviews by critics, who said that the gameplay is too repetitive to be a game that is fully recommended, it's was also critizised for it's short length.
