Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation (Originally known as Dragon Warrior III in North America) is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix in 1988 in Japan, and 1991 in North America. It is the last game in the "Erdrick Trilogy".
Why It Rocks
- It is a prequel to Dragon Quest 1 and 2 and you play as Erdrick, the legendary hero who sets up the events in those games.
- At the beginning of the game you can go to a tavern and create 3 characters to form a party of 4 playable characters.
- The characters you can create are very customizable, with the player being able to choose their gender, name, and class. The SNES remake introduces the "personality" system which adds another layer of depth to character creation.
- There is many innovations this game added to the series such as an day and night cycle and bank to store your money.
- Challenging dungeons and battles.
- Beautiful graphics, especially in the SFC version.
- Beautiful soundtrack.
Trivia
This game was so good that Japanese schoolchildren ditched school and got arrested, which led to Enix making a rule that Dragon Quest games from that point onwards would only be released on weekends and holidays. The game's popularity also led to Erdrick being playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Reception
The game was a smash hit in Japan which further solidified the popularity of the Dragon Quest series. The game did not receive the same reception in North America as it was overlooked due to the SNES being released at the time.
