Droopy Patrick is the fourteenth episode of the first season of Lu & the Bally Bunch and the fourteenth episode overall.

Plot

Lu's upset when her flowery friend begins to droop.

Why It's Droopy

  1. This is one of the few episodes where the plot is at it's most childish thanks to the writing by Shannon George and directing by Brian O'Brien.
  2. Lu and her friends (except for Barnaby and Elodie) at their most immaturest and stupidest here as they act like crybabies over Patrick, a flower, dying like it's some kind of funeral. A. SIMPLE. DYING. FLOWER! Though, dead plants are sad to see for people in real life, especially to gardeners, and maybe they'll shed some tears, too, but it sure isn't depressing enough to loudly bawl your eyes out over.
  3. Even Gus is barely likable as he cried with his friends over the dead flower, which is not even sad enough to begin with. Now Lu, Biba and Declan? It's no suprise since they cry out of the most stupid reasons, but Gus? He's suppose to be the most smartest and sanest of the bugs but in this episode, he's in a role where Elodie or Barnaby should be. In other words, he acted out of character.
  4. Patrick is a dumb name to give to a plant as it just sounds too human-ish.
  5. Like the filler father he is, Lu's Dad's (despite being tolerable) is there for thirty seconds as we only see him take his daughter to Shella (as usual) and that's all we see of him.
  6. While they're the only ones who didn't cry over Patrick being dead (and are also tolerable), Elodie and Barnaby have little to no role in this episode. Aside from saying hi to Lu, they don't even walk in or say anything until there was only two minutes and seven seconds remaining. They also spoke only these lines:
    • Like those plants there?
    • I like new plants. It's nice that Patrick will help make some.
    • Goodbye Patrick.
    • Bye bye Patrick.
  7. Speaking of lines, there's these bad, annoying and poor lines said by the bugs:
    • "I'm so sad." "I'm sad that you're sad, Lu." "Me too. Lu is sad, and that makes me sad." (Guess what they do next?)
    • "What do you call a banana, with a book? A banana!"
    • "Seeing you sad makes me feel sad, too Was Patrick a special plant, Lu?" "Yes. He was my very special friend." (You get the idea what happens after that, don't you?)
    • "Patrick is droopy, and we were going to play together today!"
  8. As always, Lu, Biba, Gus and Declan's sobbing over "Patrick's death" are extremely annoying to listen to.
  9. They also tried singing to the plant and telling it a joke, but it doesn't work because plants don't have ears or feelings.
  10. Declan's joke he told to Patrick wasn't even that funny.
  11. Shella is too calm to tell Lu and her friends sternly that Patrick is just a plant, and not a real person. She also doesn't tell them that a plant dying is not one of those things to ugly cry about.
  12. This episode is basically the Lu & the Bally Bunch version of The City of Frownsville, A Day Without Tears, Crying Smurfs, Dark Dawn, Munchy's Sinking Feeling and Edmond Elephant's Birthday, in which involves a character or more crying over the entire episode.
  13. This episode was meant to teach younger viewers the topic about death, but because of the bad pointers and Shannon and Brian's foolish handling, it failed miserably. Most especially since it's a preschool show, and death topics in that kind of genre are really hard to execute, but take it from Sesame Street, it may be a preschool show as well, but at least it handles the death topic way better than this episode.

Not Droopy Qualities

  1. Barnaby and Elodie are the only bugs who did not cry over Patrick's death.
  2. Despite their lack of involvement, Lu's Dad, Elodie and Barnaby are the only tolerable characters.
