SMG4 (formerly SuperMarioGlitchy4) is an Australian adult computer-animated science fantasy machinima situation comedy web series created by Luke Lerdwichagul, appearing on the SMG4 YouTube channel.

"MAMAF*CKER!" Qualities That Should Get Blasted By A Waluigi Launcher

  1. This era had lot of changes that make it less funny than the classic era, and had lot of bad changes such as SMG4 redesign (this will be explained later in another pointer).
  2. The humor, thanks to the channel becoming verified and monetized, has started to become more too family friendly with its humor and writing being cartoony and too many elements from memes and anime (the latter especially because of the addition of original characters).
  3. There a lot of bad episodes (some might probably be worse than Mario Joins the Circus) such as:
    • Doki Doki Mario Club (Which started the downfall of the series)
    • How To Train Your Mario
    • Boys VS Girls (One of the worst episodes of the whole series)
    • The Resurrection
    • The Melony Felony
    • Most of the Anime Arc episodes
    • If Mario Was The Last Man On Earth (also counts the worst)
    • DO NOT ENTER
    • Mario Does The Chores
    • Mario's Mask of Madness (Melony's debut)
    • Mario’s Plane Trip
    • Mario Is Cancelled
    • Food Wars
    • Meggy's Part-Time Job
    • Clown Fever
    • Most of the Lawsuit Arc episodes
    • All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE (which ended Season 12 in the poor note)
    • Christmas Wars (Which ended both Season 13 and Celestle-Notley Smith's performance as Tari on a poor note)
    • We Don’t Talk About What Happened In The Elevator
    • SMG4 Doesn’t Meme For 1 Second
    • SMG4… Are You Ok?
    • CEO OF RIZZ
    • The Day My Arm Went Psycho
    • It's Gonna Be Perfect
  4. 2019, 2021 and 2022 are considered the worst of these years:
    • 2019 being the year where Meggy started to have more main roles than before and turning her into a human OC (in Final Hours), Toad and Bowser became the next victims of being put under the bus along with even more beloved fan favorites than before. The S word became the next profanity to get censored, only having two Stupid Mario episodes and one If Mario Was In... episode, and for having a few bad episodes like Boys vs Girls.
    • 2021, although not as worse, is known for the death of Axol, the weakest of the War of the Fat Italians episodes, Garry's Mod becoming more overused than usual and using full voice lines and Uberduck more than voice clips and text.
    • 2022 is the worst year of the bunch because it had too much episodes with Meggy, Saiko, Tari and Melony's roles shoved in the plot even moreso than previous years, the introduction of even more unwanted new characters like Karen, Depresso and Kaizo, and the decision of giving SMG4, SMG3, Boopkins and Bob redesigns, thus turning them into OC's themselves, more videos where PJ64 isn't used at all, the B word becoming censorship's next victim, and home to having the most worst episodes out of all the years in this downfall.
  5. Some unlikable characters such as:
    • Saiko, while not really that bad, is an ax-crazy girlfriend brought to life by Boopkins who used to be one of the series villains, but the only problem is that she was only evil for three episodes (four if you count Mario's Jackass). Her post-Luigi's Lesson personality isn't any better either, as her character is basically the series equivalent to Teen Titans Go!'s version of Raven as she gets annoyed extremely easily by her allies and attacks them for even the slightest of insults, especially Mario and Bob, and nobody ever calls her out for it. Lately since 2021, she started to have a really creepy obsession with KFC. Her voice clips can also get on your last nerve, as her lines are voice clips from Japanese dubs. She barely even speaks english outside of text, nor does she even have a real voice actress unlike Meggy, Tari, Melony and Karen.
    • Melony is the worst of the female characters because her only trait is that she's a worshipper of Watermelons and likes sleeping so much, that she would attack or become an extreme crier if someone were to eat or destroy a watermelon.
      • Not to mention, that her voice (by Wolfychu) is sometimes annoying.
    • While she's one of the few most likable of the female characters, Karen is just your generic "Woman of a Thousand Jobs" character, similar to Miss Rabbit from Peppa Pig, Brooklyn T. Guy from SuperMarioLogan and Larry Needlemyer from The Amazing World of Gumball.
    • Francis is just as worse as he was on Super Paper Mario, but this was at least intentional since Luke and Kevin hate him just as much as Paper Mario fans do.
    • Clench is literally just Tari's living arm (of all things), and aside from being a good friend to her, he's nothing but just a poorly written comic relief and filler character combined.
    • Depresso is a rip-off of Chuckles the Clown from Toy Story 3 but with a bad depiction of depression.
    • Princess Peach, while she has been unlikable since the start of the Super Mario 64 bloopers, though did get a little better in 2018 only to go down the drain a year later, has her reached even extreme levels of character derailment where her outrages towards Mario has become even more and more worse than ever before. She also makes this extremely earbleeding sound effect everytime she explodes at Mario.
  6. In "addition", some of the pre-existing characters have been flanderized although thankfully, most of them are still likable enough to not deserve a loathsome character article:
    • Starting from 2019 (beginning with Mario's Big Chungus Hunt), Meggy went from a being just a flawless, yet, helpful member of the gang in 2017-2018 to a straight up Creator's Pet to the series and has become way too flawless for her own good (sure, her character as a whole in 2017 and 2018 to some extent was problematic to some fans, but at least it wasn't that bad compared to Jeffy's debut in 2016). Like the other OC characters that came after her and Shroomy, she was constantly shoehorned into episodes as main roles that would've been better concepts if she wasn't even in it. While her former speaking voice actress, Lizzie Freeman did a good job voicing her, her current one, Elsie Lovelock on the other hand, is extremely annoying and nasally, sounding like if Uzi Doorman (another character she voiced) never grew out of her phase of being an always-angry bitch. And dare we mention Meggy’s constant anger issues, the questionable relationship she has with Mario at times, which only became worse after the Revelations arc where she started abusing Mario over every little thing, and the fact she shows no effects from being involved from events that could have traumatised her for life, like at the end of Western Spaghetti where she ends up perfectly fine after getting tortured by being shot by her idol for a month straight with no breathers? It got to the point where fans have agreed that SMG4 would still be the same without her.
    • Bowser went from like his video game counterpart but with a comedic side where on one hand, is Mario's nemesis who kidnaps Peach constantly while on the other has times where he and Mario have their team ups from time to time (e.g. the Cooking with Bowser and Mario series and main series episodes like Son of a bowser., Shell Shocked, AREA 64 and Stupid Mario Odyssey 2) but is still evil and sometimes even teams up with SMG3 in some episodes (such as two evil friends., Bad stars and Shoot to the Observatory in the sky), to a good guy whose villainous traits got completely erased. He's one of the few characters who uses his Garry's Mod model more than his SM64 model. This face he makes used to be rolling on the floor to look at as a running gag in the old series, but nowadays everytime we see him on screen, it's always his normal expression making it so uncomfortable to look at, that it's not even a running gag anymore. Although, he's only had very few episodes where he's unlikable such as Boys vs Girls.
    • Mario not only became more stupid and unsympathetic than he was before, but later in the 2020s he became more prone to playing straight man to some characters like Fishy Boopkins, Bob, Luigi and Tari and losing his temper over certain stuff and would outright destroy anybody who'd bring it up like Among Us. For instance in Mario Reacts To Nintendo Memes 5, where he threatened to kill poor innocent Frankie over an Among Us meme, which is pretty hypocritical because he had nothing against them when he met them the first time in If Mario Was AMONG US... and even had a great cooperation with the Green Crewmate. But now he just acts like he straight up changed his mind and has an extreme hatred over them. He also became a lot more unrootable in certain episodes like How To Train Your Mario.
    • Luigi has become more easily scared of everything than before. He's also become even more of a chew toy by his own brother, where he always screams at him over stuff like whatever things he likes or doesn't like that Mario thinks vice-versa, insulting him for being a wimp, physically using him as a tool to solve problems and putting him in so much pain, danger and even (to lesser extents) straight up killing him (usually by accident).
    • SMG4 himself became more caring about his popularity and his computer more than friends sometimes, and he took this way too far in early 2023, where in the "IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT" saga, he locked himself in the secret slide room, refused to be invited to Mar10 Day, lost it after listening to Mario and Meggy beating up Wario, and throwing him at the router, raised his voiced at everyone, and kicked him (Wario), Waluigi and everyone else except for Mario and the gang. It even got to the point where taking his editing obsession way too overboard is the reason why Peach's Castle got destroyed. Thankfully, not only did he snap out of it, but even before and after then, he's still likable either way.
    • Fishy Boopkins became a childish worshipper of anime (especially if they're magical girl ones). Though he's also still likable thankfully in fact, you might also consider this good flanderization.
  7. The new characters over the years have stolen the spotlights from lots of classic beloved characters who aren't SMG4, Mario, Luigi, Fishy Boopkins, Meggy, Shroomy (although lately has been getting less major roles), SMG3 (Post-YouTube Arc) and Chris and Swagmaster (Post-Mario's Prison Escape)
  8. Some of these OC characters are created or added to the main cast for (speculated) dumb reasons:
    • Saiko was only created because the Garry's Mod models for the Doki Doki Literature Club characters weren't made yet until later in 2018. The irony here is that Luke could've just waited until Monika, Yuri and Sayori's models published so he wouldn't have to create Saiko (It also could've been a great If Mario Was In... episode rather than just a Fishy Boopkins episode). If not, he could've also just improvised by using a different pre-existing character and pretend that character is Monika, Yuri and Sayori instead, just like he did in If Mario was in... Cuphead where he used various characters as the games' bosses since none of their models were on the workshop yet such as using Ariel as Calamaria, or in If Mario Was In... Nickelodeon where he used Shari from Animal Crossing as Boots the Monkey and Stewie Griffin and Milhouse Van Houten as Tommy Pickles and Chuckie Finster.
    • Tari was only added to the main cast as a promotion for their first original series, Meta Runner, which was still in production and upcoming around that time.
    • Melony (who first appeared as a watermelon, supposed to be serving as a Meggy knock off) becoming a human was just another excuse to add more original female characters to the ensemble. What Mario said in her debut as a human is exactly what we were all thinking about the whole female adding trend. and boy, is he right.
    • Karen, aside from being a generic "New Job as the Plot Demands" character, the idea of adding a cat girl is just a lame excuse to appeal to Furry Fandoms.
  9. Because of them, the classic characters that we loved so dearly have been demoted to recurring, minor and cameo characters such as:
    • Toad
    • Bowser
    • SMG3 (Until The YouTube Arc)
    • Chris and Swagmaster (Until Mario's Prison Escape)
    • Wario
    • Waluigi
    • Toast Guy
    • Old Man Hobo (Especially early in the series' decline)
    • The Teletubbies
    • Sonic the Hedgehog
    • Dr. Eggman
    • Dr. Pootis
    • Wizard Rock
    • Steve
    • The Police
    • Frankie
    • FM
    • X
    • A majority of the Mario recolors
    • Lakitu (Even though his appearences had been declining way back in the classic era)
    • Toadsworth
    • Toadette (Despite being one of the series' unlikable characters, she's at least more funny compared to Peach)
    • Crazy Raisins Lady
    • Professor E. Gadd
    • Slendy
    • Even characters who were already side characters to begin with have been put under the bus, too such as:
      • Yoshi
      • Donkey Kong
      • Princess Peach (Even though she's unlikable)
      • Princess Daisy
      • Chain Chomp
      • Bowser Jr.
      • Dr. Mario
      • The Bullies
      • Various Mario enemies and bosses
      • Enzo (Although he's also unlikable)
      • Granny Koopa
      • Freddy Fazbear
      • Chica
      • Bonnie
      • Foxy
      • Purple Man
      • Puppet
  10. The new OC characters, especially the female ones are constantly shoehorned into episodes as main characters, the worst offender being if the episode plots that have great concepts that would've fit even better in the early years if they weren't in them at all. Especially if the thumbnail has only Mario in it, but the OC characters are in them as main roles. You could just remove and replace them with different characters and the plot would've been different. For example: In Mario's Prison Escape, you could just replace Meggy, Saiko and Tari with SMG4, Toad and Bowser instead, showing that SMG4 would still be the same without the new characters.
    • To add more insult to injury, whenever a new character makes a debut in one episode, it would only take a weekend or two for that character to make another appearence due to popular demand as if it's some kind of unwritten rule.
  11. Like Jellystone!, Saiko, Tari, Melony, Karen and more female OC characters are only added as main characters just as an excuse to balance out the gender in SMG4's ensemble cast.
  12. Sometimes, the original characters can be seen as rip-offs to the classic characters, too:
    • Saiko can be a rip-off of Princess Peach and Toadette since all three of them are pretty wrathful, can hit people the second they hear even the least offensive insult and never take no for answer and would threaten to kill them if they don't change their minds right away. Like in The Mario Hustle where Saiko kicked SMG3's door open and INTENSIVELY GRABBED HIM AND SCREAMED AT HIM TO BUY HER ROCKS OR ELSE rather than just go looking for someone else who'd love to, Mario and The Diss Track where she painfully grabbed Luigi's arm EXTREMELY HARD, telling him not to touch her when all he did was to pat her on the back, Mario Does The Chores where she threw a vacuum cleaner at Mario, sleeping on the job, yelling at him to get up from his butt and keep working and WHAT IF...? where she sent Bob hospitalizing (albeit jump cutted) simply for saying something "nice" about her butt. All of these are something that Peach and Toadette would do.
    • Melony is seen as a female rip-off of Toast Guy because they both have an obsession with a certain type of food, except that Toast Guy's simp for toast is handled way better than Melony.
    • Mr. Monitor can be seen as a rip-off of the Mario policemen.
    • Depresso could possibly rip-off both Old Man Hobo and Steve because for Old Man Hobo, they're both homeless, and pop up in filthy areas like dumpsters, alleys and sewers and for Steve because they're both big fans of a certain animal (rats and chickens) and they would both go into a frenzy, panic or wipe the floor with anyone who would harm them.
    • Karen can also be a clone of Toad as well, because they're both grumpy, are forced to focus on their jobs (Karen's being over a hundred jobs she has, especially store ones as a clerk or employee and Toad's being to sit all day long in the corner of the castle's main entrance) which they hate, and are bugged by Mario (and especially him) and his friends' antics. And did we mention that Toad wasn't even in Mario's Plane Trip, but Karen was, putting a dent into the classic "Mario forcing SMG4 and Toad to go on a trip with him" plot?
  13. While it's not really confirmed why, but it's possible that the reason these new characters (and Meggy) pushed all the old characters aside, as well as other additions and changes like turning Old Man Hobo, SMG4, SMG3, Boopkins and Bob into OC's, replacing Peach's Castle with the SMG4 Castle might've been because Luke Lerdwichagul wanted to focus more on the channel as something new rather than just a Mario parody channel.
  14. The Arcs, while not really that bad, are too long as they last for months, missed oppertunities for SMG4 to do episodes centering on certain events as well as holiday episodes.
  15. The Music Credits got removed in favor of sponsers, having fans looking for the unidentified music used in the series themselves. Thankfully, the wikia has their own music list for each episode, but not all the tracks used in each episode are shown.
  16. And while on the topic of music, certain music used in the series such as songs like N.W.A's F Tha Police, Bee Gee's Stayin' Alive and most of SpongeBob SquarePants and Ren and Stimpy's Associated Production Music tracks (including most used tracks such as Geoffrey Bastow's Daytime Drama and Syd Dale's Gunning for Danger even though those two were only used in two SpongeBob episodes each once (those respectively being Dumped and Sun Bleached)) were either underused, no longer used or to lesser extents, pitched edited to avoid copyright. And this is sad, because some of the music people listen to are because they came from SMG4.
  17. YouTube's policy censorship has gotten even worse than usual, as now they censored the F and S words. Hell, lately they even censored the even smaller curse words such as "B*tch". While the F and S words were bleeped before in the older years, those were only because they were ripped from other content that aren't allowed to say them to begin with (such as Smosh, Dorkly and Family Guy). Because of this, SMG4 can barely do anymore edgy humor such as being allowed to say even stronger slurs and words like the N word and R@pe. And those words actually worked well back in the old series more than anything, or anywhere else. But thanks to the policies (which has been stuck to the series since 2017), it's slowly turning SMG4 into a webseries for teens and younger Mario fans rather than only for adults. And SMG4 is supposed to be for adults only.
    • Because of the policies, certain sound effects were changed to fit with the family friendly rules. (For example: "What did you say, N****?!" has the last word of the line taken out so it's edited to just say "What did you say?!" instead)
  18. Garry's Mod has been overused to the max even more than Super Mario 64, Mario Party 3 (For Wario, Waluigi, Daisy and Donkey Kong) and GoldenEye 007 (For Chris and Swagmaster) to the point where they don't feel like Super Mario 64 Bloopers at all, but more like Garry's Mod videos instead. Including some episodes where Project 64 is not even used at all. While Garry's Mod has been used more than PJ64 during the last two years of the classic era, here it's only a matter of time until Project 64 is no longer needed to make videos, and only Garry's Mod.
    • Although, Luke Lerdwichagul revealed in his stream that the real reason why he Garry's Mod overused is because it's much quicker to finish episodes.
  19. If the new characters weren't bad enough, in 2022, SMG4, SMG3, Boopkins and Bob received redesigns that old fans did NOT take this change very well, though Bob's redesign wasn't look that bad tho. This makes it one of the reasons why 2022 is the worst year of the SMG4 downfall.
  20. In 2023, Princess Peach's Castle has been destroyed, and the gang now live in a new original hangout location called The Showgrounds. While it's a nice place to live in, it's not a good idea as an outright replacement for the castle. Thankfully, the castle is still used in REMASTERED64.
    • Speaking of which, REMASTERED64, while they're great, they still have many problems SMG4 didn't fix or improve in the original versions.
    • In Freddy's Spaghetteria, the scene where S*lowpoke goes trick or treating has him still use a vector image of it like in the old version rather than use a Garry's Mod model. It doesn't help that he's used the model before in Mario Waits in Line For Some Spaghetti.
      • WHO LET THE CHOMP OUT? Still doesn't fix the plot-hole if Peach and Toad got killed by the Chain Chomp or not.
      • And like the other reasons above, lots of scenes were cut or re-edited to make the REMASTERED64 episodes more family friendly.
  21. Because of all the reasons above, it can be extremely hard for old SMG4 fans (or even Mario fans in general) to get used to all these changes, and aside from a lot of great things, there's absolutely no sign that SMG4 will ever go back to the former glory the series once had.

Qualities That Still Deserve a Bowl of Spaghetti

  1. SMG4's bloopers used to be great before Saiko's first appearence, making this downfall even sadder.
  2. Despite the overuse of Garry's Mod and the humor being more cartoony lately, the editing and writing is just as great as the older episodes and gets more and more better each year, thanks to Luke and Kevin getting more crew members.
  3. These years (or seasons, depending on how you wanna call them) can still be enjoyable and influential to some SMG4 fans that would still wanna make their own fanmade SMG4 episode (especially to those who aren't a fan of the new characters and changes and want their own videos to bring back the feel of what made pre-2018 SMG4 so hilariously classic) or have not given up hope.
  4. Speaking of which, there are some fanmade SMG4 episodes made during these years that are actually better than these years. Especially ones that don't have any of the new characters, SMG4, SMG3, Boopkins and Bob's redesigns or the Showgrounds so they take place during the old years (Please look at tips on how to make your own Super Mario 64 Bloopers below)
  5. It's not too uncommon for an old fan who might get used to all the changes to the series, but that still doesn't make trying to get used to the new changes yourself any less dificult.
  6. The Showgrounds is a pretty great location, despite the idea of having it a new hangout not being a good one to old fans who are used to Peach's castle.
  7. Mario, Luigi, SMG4 and Fishy Boopkins' flanderizations are too small to have loathsome character pages, so they're still good characters (despite Mario's being the least minor). Bowser and Meggy on the other hand? While Bowser's LCW page on his flanderization is already in the works, he didn't became unlikable big time, it's just that his traits of his real video game counterpart went down the drain and is now in roles where a good guy character should've been, but can still be tolerable (some episodes even have Bowser's personality from the classic era and can still have villain moments). But as for Meggy? Sure her debut in season 7/2017 wasn't a warm welcome to fans, but she didn't really make the show go downhill. Even when the seasonal rot erupted like a volcano right when Saiko made her debut, Meggy (aside from some bad traits that would expand a year later) is still likable for one more time until "Mario's Big Chungus Hunt".
    • Meanwhile, there are still a lot of characters who have not suffered a single bit of flanderization and derailments, and are all still likable, too such as:
      • Bob
      • SMG3 (despite suffering from lack of focus in the first two seasons of the downfall (and the last two seasons of the classic era) until the YouTube Arc, where he became a major character again and even reformed in later years, creating some sort of Sonic and Shadow like chemistry between him and SMG4)
      • Chris and Swagmaster (despite the same going to them too, until "Mario's Prison Escape" where they got their major roles back, but became offical members of SMG4 and Mario's gang instead of getting their show back)
      • Shroomy
    • And despite their stealing spotlights from the classic characters and constant shoehorning, there are at least some new characters who are likable (well, mainly) and are here to stay whether you like them or not. Such as:
      • Tari (despite being created just to promote Meta Runner and being a spotlight stealer)
      • Jeeves (Even though he quickly lost his major roles by 2020)
      • Axol (Before his death)
      • Mr. Monitor (despite being a replacement of the cops)
      • Susan (before getting written off due to the real Susan Wojcicki's firing and death)
      • Oneshot Wren (Before his death)
      • Mr. Puzzles
      • Fuego the Water Bottle (despite being a joke character, and has only made seven appearances)
      • JubJub Boopkins
      • Belle Fontiere (even though she's one of the few OC's who actually have less appearances compared to the other females)
      • Rob the Scarecrow
  8. There's still many good episodes to watch (especially if the new characters are absent in them) such as:
    • Mushrooms & Morons: Hunt for the Egg of Draconius GO (Which is a good way to start 2018, despite Mushrooms & Morons quickly getting forgotten about after two episodes)
    • Guards N' R****ds: The Vacation (Which ended Chris and Swagmaster's spin-off on a good note before officially becoming apart of SMG4's gang)
    • If Mario Ran Nintendo
    • Stupid Mario Sports Mix (Despite Peach's karma-less unlikability)
    • Mario's Dangerous Delivery (Despite sadly being the last episode to use the music credits, it at least was a hilarious way to end the classic series before the next episode being Doki Doki Mario Club, where the real decline began)
    • Mario Gladiators
    • The Mario Mafia
    • Mario VS Steve (Despite being the first episode to censor the F word)
    • The Smash 5 Trials
    • Detective Mario & Pikachu
    • The Super Mario Stupid Show
    • Mario waits for Pizza
    • If Mario Was In... Kirby Star Allies
    • Lost In The Woods
    • The Super Dudes
    • Mario's Fancy Dinner
    • Mario's Preschool
    • If Mario Was In... Baldi's Basics
    • Stupid Mario Tennis Aces
    • Freddy's Ultimate Custom Spaghetteria
    • If Mario was in... Deltarune (A good way to end 2018)
    • Mario Goes to the Fridge to Get a Glass Of Milk (A great way to start 2019)
    • Mario's Big Chungus Hunt (Despite Meggy being shoehorned in this episode, and the lack of Bugs Bunny voice clips)
    • Mario Gets Stuck On An Island
    • Stupid Mario 3D World (Despite being the first episode to censor the S word and Toad's last role as a main character)
    • Mario Works at Mcdonalds
    • Stupid Mario Maker 2 (Despite it being a Luigi torture episode and Peach making a bad ending for him and Mario)
    • The Tari Abnormality
    • Mario Raids Area 51 (Despite the shoehorned beginning with Meggy and Saiko)
    • If Mario Was in... Minecraft
    • Treasure Hunt With The Bois
    • Mario and The Lost City...
    • Sans's First Day In Smash Bros
    • Mario vs IT 🤡
    • War Of The Fat Italians 2019
    • Super Mario Taxi
    • SMG4 Runs Out of Memes
    • The Weegee Uprising
    • Mario Gets His PINGAS Stuck In The Door (A really funny way to start 2020, despite being a Mario torture episode)
    • Mario School Club (Which is not only one of the few good examples to put the OC characters in a main role, but also a good way to introduce Mr. Monitor)
    • Bowser Loses Custody Of His Children (Where it's not only one of the last episodes to put Bowser in a starring role, but it's also one of the few episodes where Peach is at least tolerable and doesn't rage as much as previous and later appearences)
    • If Mario was in The Sonic Movie (A great way to bring back Sonic)
    • Mario's Magical TV
    • Lord Of The Memes
    • Mario Commits Tax Fraud (Which brings back Yoshi for a one-time main role)
    • If Mario Was In Animal Crossing
    • Wario Tries To Stop Himself From Dying (Which puts Wario's role as a titular character back like how he was in The Wacky Wario Bros.)
    • Officer Meggy (Even if it didn't age well)

      • The first five episodes of 2018 are still considered classic SMG4 since it still uses the music credits, and they were a great way to begin 2018. It was only until Doki Doki Mario Club was when the downfall began.
      • While they are apart of the downfall, the first two months of 2020 are considered the best months of that year, since there were only a couple of videos involving the main cast and Saiko only appeared in one, being Meggy's Destiny. This might imply that SMG4 has gone the closest thing to having two months with no episodes where the modern characters are present at all.
  9. There are some great spin-off series for the series such as SMG4 Crew and Mario Reacts.
  10. Despite their flaws, 2018, 2020 and 2023-present are the most tolerable years.
    • While 2018 was indeed the year where everything went downhill, such as the introduction of OC characters and slowly pushing the old characters aside, the replacement of the music credits, the introduction of Arcs (and having two arcs, filling up the rest of that year), and the overuse of censorship, there were still many pros to it. Bowser and Toad were still main characters, many good videos even after Saiko, Jeeves and Tari's debuts, and Peach (despite her being an unlikable karma houndini in Stupid Mario Sports Mix) is pretty tolerable in this year since she had a little bit of character development since she saved Mario's life from becoming a T-Pose zombie. She was also likable in Stupid Mario 3D World (aside from slapping Mario, sending him flying over being asked to make him a sandwich and kicking him right up into the air and on the ground after refusing to fix the clear pipe). Unfortunately, she would go back to her old ways at the beginning of the Anime arc, making her worse and worse than she was in the classic era and aside from a couple of episodes where she's at least tolerable (such as Bowser Loses Custody Of His Children and The Stupid Mario Movie), there has been no sign of her ever reforming once again.
    • 2020, despite introducing even more OC characters than there were before, a few bad episodes and such, it's admittedly one of the best years of this downfall as it's best known for a lot of (only) good things about it. Such as giving SMG3 his title as a major character again, one-time only returns of old characters such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Yoshi. The revival of Ssenmodnar (despite it's execution not staying true to the old years) and one or two-time comebacks of certain starter packs such as the Mario and Bowser plots. While there's way too much new characters than 2018, some of them are at least likable such as Mr. Monitor, JubJub Boopkins and Feugo (despite being more of a joke character) even though some of them aren't (such as Melony and Whimpu) and them quickly getting pushed to the side in favor of Melony a year later.
    • 2023-present though some problems here and there such as censorship of more small bad words such as "Bitch" and the biggest one being the destruction of Peach's Castle, and the introduction of the original location, The Showgrounds, and SMG4 barely acknowledging the Garry's Mod Nintendo Addon removal problem, they're considered okay years, and they introduced great stuff such as SMG4 & SMG3, which gives many Hobo Bros vibes. Especially some of them reminding viewers of the Hobo Theater videos, episodes and SMG4 Crew videos with even more great unique executions such as Weird Mario Games Be Like..., SMG4 vs Content Farms, Mario Reacts to Lethal Nintendo Memes and Mario Reacts to Illegal Nintendo Memes, and the introduction of REMASTERED64, which like SuperMarioLogan's Human era's remakes, recreates the glory of classic SMG4 albiet many lines, scenes, sounds and music changed for censorship, copyright and aging reasons. And it shows that SMG4 can still use Peach's Castle, SMG4's old design and the recolors again, making it one of (if not) THE best things about not just as of this year, but for the entire downfall as a whole.
  11. Even though 2019 and 2021-2022 are the most weakest years, they do have a lot of interesting moments:
    • 2019 introduced a new plot formula where something simple later ensues chaos, feeling reminiscent to the R****ded64 episodes. It also introduced us to Axol and Susan, who are great new characters despite the former's death in 2021, and the latter being written out due to the real Susan Wojcicki's firing and death.
    • 2021 gave us two new spin-off short series' called Mario Plays and Mario Reacts (both of which later combined into Mario Does Things, and then renamed to SMG4 Crew after the jump to The SMG4 Castle). They're one of the best things about the downfall since most of the classic characters make cameo appearences there than the main series. Aside from that, there's also plenty of great episodes that would made so much potential like Nintendo Gets Deleted.
    • Even 2022 has some bright sides to that year. It brought us plenty of episode plots with great executions:
      • Mario Games Be Like are like a combination between the Stupid Mario episodes and THE 5,000,000 SUB SPECIAL.
      • Five Nights At Freddy's Games Be Like... takes the idea of an episode focusing on a different franchise instead of just centering on Mario or the Mario series at all, similar to Sonic the Derphog and Guards N' R****ds but also does the same thing as THE 5,000,000 SUB SPECIAL.
      • On the Mario Does Things side, there are many more videos that don't just have Mario playing games or reacting to stuff including ones where he would try to attempt to do better than whatever's happening in the video or meme he watches, looks at or reads. Most videos also have Mario collab with one of his friends in the videos, too (despite being against their will sometimes).
  12. Despite all of the problems and changes, this downfall isn't that bad compared to what SML went through.

Reception

Those eras had mixed to positive reviews by audiences but a rather divise reception by long time SMG4 fans with some who founded it to lose it charms, as well as them that consider it to had ton of bad episodes to the point of having some of the worst episodes of the whole series, and some of them who still like those eras.

Tips for Classic SMG4 Fans Who Don't Like The Modern Episodes

  1. If you like SMG4 but don't like the post-2017 episodes, you can watch many machinima channels with videos similar to SMG4 but are considered better than the modern episodes. Although some of them are Garry's Mod only and some of them are Project 64 only, there are a lot of them that make bloopers in both Garry's Mod, Super Mario 64, Mario Party 3 (For Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong and Daisy) and GoldenEye 007 (For Chris and Swagmaster) combined. Good examples include:
    • Crispy Toast
    • Mister Prawn
    • ShockHat734 (His videos are basically like classic SMG4 but with Kirby characters and since his YouTube channel is well-received for being underrated, he's a good alternative for those who like classic SMG4 or for Kirby fans in general)
    • OnyxKing (Although he's an extremely watered down rip-off of SMG4, he's a pretty optional choice since unlike him, he at least doesn't push classic characters who aren't Mario (such as Toad, Bowser and the Wario Bros.) under the bus over his own OC's)
  2. You can also make your own series of Super Mario 64 bloopers and make them feel like it's still classic SMG4. Here are the steps on how:
    • First, although whether it's optional or not, you need to download the Project 64 emulator, a rom of Super Mario 64 (or any romhacks for misc. stuff such as backgrounds or locations) or roms of Mario Party 3 if you want to put Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong and Daisy in your episode or GoldenEye 007 if you want to use Chris and Swagmaster and Garry's Mod.
    • You're gonna need to have a Steam account, and buy Garry's Mod, which is definitely reccommended because if you managed to get a cracked version of Garry's Mod for free, certain addons or mods will not work. Especially new ones. Thankfully, the game is cheap and only costs 10 dollars.
      • However, even if you buy Garry's Mod, you're also going to need certain other Valve games such as Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead because they are also reccommended for certain addons or maps that only work if you bought the games in question, or if you want to use characters from those games. While TF2 is free, the others cost about 10, 20 or more bucks. And worst of all, is that you're also gonna need a hard drive since when you do buy them, the games' storage are over 15 to 20 gigabytes.
    • A recording program like Fraps, but if you use it on PJ64, you need to open Fraps first because if you open it after, the emulator will freeze. Did we also mention that you have to buy Fraps first? It costs 37 dollars.
      • Or if you don't have enough to buy Fraps, you could also use OBS since it's free, but it's much more complicated to use.
    • A (buy only) video editor such as Sony Vegas (which is what SMG4 uses, even though it's an outdated version). But that depends on whichever one you buy.
    • Lots of Garry's Mod addons and maps, however Nintendo ones are gonna be dificult to find thanks to the recent takedown.
    • Lots of video ideas, plots, concepts and executions.
    • You can add music and sound effects on there, but if you're a vertified user, certain music can't be used to avoid getting demonitized.
  3. But if you don't know how to make a video like SMG4, there are many tutorials on YouTube that you can watch, but the steps depend on which ones you watch and how they're made.
