Duckman: Private Dick/Family Man (or commonly known as Duckman) is an American adult animated sitcom that aired on the USA Network from March 5, 1994 through September 6, 1997 with a total of 70 episodes and 4 seasons. It was created and developed by Everett Peck. The sitcom is based on characters by Peck in his Dark Horse comic. Klasky Csupo animated the series and produced it along with Reno & Osborn Productions for Paramount Network Television. It marks Klasky Csupo's second adult-oriented television series after The Simpsons.
Story
The series centers on Eric T. Duckman (voiced by Jason Alexander), a lascivious, widowed, anthropomorphic duck who lives with his family in Los Angeles and works as a private detective.
Why It's Hommina Hommina How Wah!
- It is way ahead of it's time, with the show's overall humor and tone being similar to Archer and especially BoJack Horseman.
- While a very ugly looking show, its animation is fluid and enhances the surrealism of the show.
- Hilarious humor, with tons of good running gags, surrealism, and great satire.
- Great voice acting, especially from Jason Alexander as the titular protagonist.
- It's self-aware without being distracting and annoying.
- Homer Simpson himself had a hilarious cameo appearance on the show.
- The show has a lot of quiet moments.
- Funny and well-developed characters, like Duckman himself, his family, and his partner Cornfed.
- Despite the crude, cynical tone, it has very heartwarming moments.
- Extreme and excellent theme song and soundtrack.
- Duckman makes a speech about the importance of being offensive and politically incorrect in comedy which resonates well with today.
"What the hell are YOU staring at!?" Qualities
- Like other Klasky Csupo shows, it has hideous character designs. Thankfully, it's one of the few whose art-style actually fit well with the tone.
- The main character, while very likable and sympathetic, is kind of a jerk.
- The series ended on an unresolved cliffhanger. Though this was most likely done as a joke.
Trivia
- Homer Simpson from The Simpsons made a cameo appearance at the end of the episode "Duckman and Cornfed in 'Haunted Society Plumbers".
